Taser proof jacket

Looks like we're finally getting some tools to protect us from the taser-happy Jack booted thugs.

I don't think police ought to be allowed to have tasers. They're abused way too much.

So, how long have you had this irrational fear of being Taser'd?

Specifically, what activities are you participating in that you would not be willing to stop when the nice officer asks you to?

When that time arrives, please try to get some video:

I'd see it as something like this:

Officer: "Stop! {whatever you were doing} ... blah blah blah "

You: "Eat my shorts Officer! Go away! I'm busy! ... beside, you can't Taser me, I have a Taser-Proof jacket! Ha-Ha!!!!! "

Officer: " Hmmmm.... I guess I'll have to either beat you sensless with a nightstick or shoot you ... do you have a preference? Shall I call some backup and we can have a party?"

You guys are a marketeer's dream , you'll buy the solution to a non-existant problem and smiiiiile about it all day long.

Getting Taser'd isn't that bad, it's not really painful; you just drop because of CNS interference. I have been Taser'd as part of a demonstration, it's just not that big of a deal.

exactly, how may times do you see or hear about a beat cop or a routine stop turn into one where the cop just randomly tasers first and ask questions later.

Not many, if at all.

It only happens is you fail to comply with a lawful order...and yes much to your dismay that lawful order may supercede what you believe to be your rights.

It's very simple.

don't want a speeding ticket, don't speed.

don't want to get aressted for murder? Don't kill someone.

don't want a DUI? Don't drive drunk.

don't want to get tasered? Don't get violent with the cops.

Comply and walk away.

It's ard to be a Billy Bad-Ass and show "the man" your big balls when you have 2 barbs stuck in your body shooting enough electrical current through you to make you piss yourself.

Of course it makes great entertainment for the rest of us.

Couple of people in the news get tasered and suddenly the hundreds of thousands of cops in the country are all taser-happy!

Depends where you are really......I can attest to the police officers here (Morgantown, WV...on campus at WVU) are quite pepper spray happy and really don't care about the danger it presents to anyone nearby that might happen to have stress/allergen induced asthma. A few years ago at the end of a football game, the state police/entire city force stood on the sidelines and essentially hosed the student section down with bear control rated canisters of pepper spray (think fire extinguishers full of the stuff). I was lucky enough that paramedics were there for the game and the field is literally another 100 yards away from the hospital but I'm sure if I cried to the media I could have been on CNN. So its naive to believe that there is no excessive force abuse by our officers but also equally naive to view it as an epidemic.
Back on topic...this kind of scares me, if officers just assume everyone is wearing one of these they are just going to aim somewhere else (neck, face, crotch, legs)....I'll take my taserering to the ribs thank you very much :)

If you aren't engaging in activities that piss off the cops, you know, like expressing freedom of speech and assembly, you got nothing to worry about.

Exactly my point. Cops are entirely too taser happy. In the "don't tase me bro" tasering, or the UCLA student tasering, where there was NO violence until the cops initiated it, I'd much rather read the headline: "2 Police officers shot dead in self defense after attacking college student," than all this bull shit tasering the jack booted thugs are doing.

I'd pay good money to see a video of Nebor mouthing off to two or three of Philadelphia's finest in his hot little taser proof number. :p ;)

How are they being abused? It's a non-lethal weapon that is lower on the severity scale than the baton. If I had to choose between being tasered and being hit with a baton, bring on the taser (yes, I have gotten tased and it HURTS). Your comments show your ignorance of the entire situation. If you would actually take the time to learn about tasers, you would realize that they are a much better alternative than just about anything out there when it comes to using force.

Are you in law enforcement? Have you ever even TALKED with someone in law enforcement? If not, then you are completely unqualified to talk about this. I recently finished a 10 week course with our local Sherrifs department and now I fully understand why they do what they do. They have to put up with crap like the "don't tase me bro" idiots. They don't know what these people are going to do and have to decide whether to take action or not within less than one second. If they wait, then really bad things could happen. It's a judgement call that has to be made immediately and they have to make it. What would you think if there was a crowded room and some lunatic starts running around and screaming? I would certainly think that this guy is a threat and try to take him down as soon as possible. What if he had a bomb? Then we would all be wondering why the police didn't take action sooner.

You just love playing monday morning quarterback and spending MONTHS analyzing what someone should have done when that person only had < 1 second to figure it out themselves.

We pay these fvckers' salaries. So yeah, we are very qualified to tell them what to do.
Your logic would allow cops to murder anyone they want. What if he has a bomb, let's shoot him and ask questions later.

Bad idea. The second any cop thinks his taser isn't working he'll, "Be in fear for his live and the lives of others" pull out his guns and shoot you in the head dead. Then he'll get two weeks off with pay, while his boss decides the murder was OK.

NO. You are NOT qualified to tell them what to do. Get some comprehension skills; I didn't say that they should just always shoot first and ask questions later. I said that they have to make that decision within < 1 second. They are TRAINED (unlike you) to be able to deal with these situations and make those decisions.

Do you really think that just because you pay some taxes that you are fully qualified to know what they should and should not do in certain circumstances? If so, then I don't know why we send these people to training. We should just ask them if they pay taxes and if they do, just send them out on the streets.

It really depends. I have a genetic condition that is related to the electrical activity in my brain and muscles. I suspect that if I got tasered I would either be a) dead or b) have serious medical issues the rest of my life. With trigger happy cops around I am FAR more woried about getting tasered than getting shot.

SarcasticDwarf:

I understand; sorry to hear about your condition. There's some degree of risk in anything.

The intended point was that in the arsenal of things available to law enforcement, the Taser is a much better solution that some of the other things.

Law enforcement is a difficult job and I support any tools that allows the cops to do their job more effectively and safely.

I just found it humorous that someone would be worried about being Tased so much, they'd spring the bucks for a garment that would assure a beating or gunshot. All the funnier is that complaince with the officer's request is free.

Stupidity will cost you.

For anyone that's confused by the concept of "compliance," please look up the video of Chris Rock explaining how to avoid getting beaten or shot. It's funny and educational at the same time.

FWIW
