A couple of days ago I posted here about whether or not to get an anti-static wristband in order to build my computer. The general opinion was it would be overkill, but for 5 bucks at comp USA compared to delicate hardware worth hundreds of dollars my decision was easy.

One question:

Where do i clamp that little alligator clip to in an ideal situation?

Thanks guys.

the case, something rubber, anything that grounds well.

In my CMT (computer maintenance technology) class, they have these little rubber pad type things (feel like those old mouse pads) that we clipped our clips onto. Basically when your putting your system together, wear clothes that don't conduct electricity (Static can kill parts too), wear your tennies so you can further ground yourself, and put it together in a place that doesn't have carpet, as that can cause static from moving around on it.

Hope that helps!

You would clip to the case. To keep your system grounded, but totally off, I'd suggest leaving the power cord plugged in but turn off the power strip that your system is plugged into.
It would be nice to have a workbench with static disapative mats on the desk and on the floor, but most of us don't go that far.
