Anti-Radar Spray?

So yesterday I was at a local hoggie place and the owner, who never shuts up was talking to one of the regulars. He mentioned something about some sort of spray that people are using on their plates to jam radar and avoid tickets. My BS meter was off the charts, is this guy for real?

lmfao...i doubt it...

I think this is something for plates only, makes it so that IR cameras can't image the characters on your plates. Pretty sure it's illegal.

I doubt that there's anything that would work like that for radar.

there are such things as radar absorbing coatings, but I doubt they would work for that purpose.

The Stealth planes are coated with the stuff, but it's not the only reason they are stealthy. It's also the shape.

LOL this guy is a piece of work though. He was going off about how if they use a laser with this spray, they can't get a solid speed and have no proof. I have heard about the photo blockers but this was different.

He does make good hoggies/burgers though.

That "phantom plate" spray is not radar-absorbing. All it does is make the license plate highly reflective so that the flash washes out the image (it probably contains silica crystals or something else reflective). Radar-absorbing coatings (like what the F-117 uses) are real but insanely expensive, heavy, and not to mention classified.

Not sure, I was just wondering if this guy was full of BS. I caught the tail end of the converstation with another customer.

Well, if he's talking about a way to eliminate the ability of a police officer's RADAR to record his speed, there's no "magic paint" or coating that will do it on a car. I've used RADAR enough to know that much. A car actually has a pretty large RADAR cross section and returns a lot of energy back to the receiver antenna. A car with angled surfaces, very sleek and painted with RADAR absorbing paint would reduce it's signature, but probably still not eliminate it. If he was talking about something to limit the effectiveness of laser speed detection systems, then he's still wrong. Laser detection systems are most commonly aimed at license plates because of their reflective coatings, however, just about any surface on the car that reflects the laser beam is just as effective, although I've not used any laser speed detection systems personally.

The product apparently is real, but the "Tested by..." part could still be complete BS. Anyone have direct links to these supposed results?

And from what I understood, the radar detectors can detect a lot more than just the reflections from the license plate. Perhaps something can keep the plate from being read, but not the car's speed from being detected because it will reflect light as well.

Bull sh1t. I was watching Myth Busters and they were testing out theories about radar jammers and that such.

None of them worked

I loved the aluminum foil car, gotta do that to someone. 😀

from that site:

Photo Blocker Spray. Anti-flash reflective clear coating. Invisible to the necked eye. A proven defense against photo radar, red light and speed cameras. Tested by The Denver Police department and FOX NEWS, Tech-TV, Australian TV, NBC, CBS News and Swedish Police. "Surprisingly Effective" says Fox News

wow, just wow. A mean, a real company should be able to at least run spell check, right?

It's bogus. Companies do sell products that claim to do that, they just don't work. Companies also sell magic hats that prevent aliens from controlling your mind.

it was on mythbusters on the discovery channel. its a total myth.

edit: doh ppl beat me to it

Did they actually cover the spray tho?

I just remember the cd/keys in the windshield, the LED's at the license plate, the flat black paint, the aluminum foil car, the rotating mirrors, and the cannon that shot stuff into the air to confuse it. I think that covers their futile attempts at beating the radar. 🙂

Read the unbiased independant reviews on laser/radar jammers. The bes one is like $700 but cuts the detectable range by 1/2 on lasers and gives an error on most radar guns. 🙂
