True. LOL.

The worst part is that when they come to L.A. one of the first things they ask with drool coming out of their mouths is "Have you seen any movie stars????? HAVE YOU???".

Oh the hypocracy.

And once and for all....

Earthquakes? They're not that bad unless you're one of those few that dies every decade or so. There are two types: Shakers and Rollers. The rolling earthquakes are fun. It's the shakers that make you run, dive, fly to the doorjam. 99% of the time it's not a big deal though since the quake is either too far away or too deep. I barely feel them. The 7.2 in San Francisco? I didn't even feel it despite there being 4 foot waves in my pool. I was in a car and thought the news reports were a War of the Worlds type joke. A guy trying to jump his car over a hole in the Bay Bridge? Come on....

I'd take an Earthquake any day over a Hurricane or Tornado or Freezing to death. Less people die in Earthquakes. Less damage is done. I feel safer.

Granted, I'm not looking forward to the big one....

And for the people in the South or rural Oklahoma and Texas, California has rube cities with a lot of Trailer Parks where they put their cars on blocks like Bakersfield, Barstow and Fresno where you guys would feel right at home

A lot of you need to stfu and go to California, live there, and then state your opinion. Hollywood has little to do with the rest of Cali, and is not even close to representing it.
I have lived a lot of places...the northeast, the Bible belt, even a few years in Europe...of all the places I have lived California is my least favorite.

Hollywood may not be representative of the whole state, but the culture and attitudes certainly extend well beyond Rodeo Drive...the materialistic excess of Orange County and parts of LA is sickening...one thing you don't see in other parts of the country is 40 something Stepford wives soccer moms walking around in pink velour jumpsuits, with the word "Juicy" written across their ass...not to mention the fountain of youth through cosmetic surgery culture, and the label whore arrogance. This culture extends from Beverly Hills all the way to San Diego.

Of course you can escape the excess of the OC and live east of the mountains, but Riverside and San Fernando are not exactly ideal places to live...landlocked suburbs coated in smog, with the beautiful pre-planned community concrete expanse of "Tuscan" monopoly houses...and a lovely commute through the freeway bottlenecks that get you to the coastal industrial and corporate parks. That, and your next door neighbor could be running a crystal meth lab.

Los Angeles lacks the charm of a true city, as you have to drive everywhere to get from one fun spot to the next...with the nightlife dictated more by being seen at a particular hotspot as opposed to just going out and having a casual night of bar hopping fun.

Granted, San Diego is a great city, and northern California is beautiful, as is the quality of life there...but the LA to OC belt...there are far more beautiful and affordable coastal regions in the world, and the people there detract from any quality of life you can possibly enjoy.

Then again it all comes down to preference...some love the lifestyle, with an H2, Jaguar and Mercedes in every gated community driveway...but if you don't aspire to such a lifestyle, it kind of leaves you scratching your head thinking WTF is wrong with these people?

Los Angeles is much more then hollywood.

I grew up in the suburbs of NYC and lived in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Houston...I like each city for their own reason and I am very happy with Los Angeles and I hate hollywood probably more then most people, but whatever...each city has their positives and negatives

Yeah if I had to live in the LA/OC area I doubt that I would like it very much. In fact I never enjoyed visiting there when I lived in California. That said you really are doing Californians a favor by portraying it in such a negative light, hopefully the Rubes will take what you have to say as the gospel truth and stay the fsck out. Lord knows they don't want the rest of the state to turn into the Bible Belt West ala Bakersfield.

well I drove from Tempe, AZ to long beach the other day. And then long beach back to san francisco the next. Reminded me so much of why I hate california. While driving on whatever highway that connects to long beach (grove parkway or whatever), traffic suddenly came to a sudden stop. Ended up lasting at least an hour from where I was. What was the cause of shutting down a 5 lane highway? One dumb fvcking girl had a fender bender with the far right guardrail while driving her daddy's escalade and the presence of one small emergency vehicle (nothing was wrong) constituted an one hour delay. Fvcking california. Yes I know that anytime there is a minor accident people like to stop and see what's going on, but yesterday was just ridiculous. I've been in plenty of traffic slowdowns, but that was just pure bullsh!t.

I've turned very anti-california because everytime I try to tell people that there are other nice cities to live in as well, people just say no sorry california is better. Yeah thanks, I lived in California for 20 years. I think i'm able to make comparisons by myself and decide which place I enjoy living in more. It's as if people think that just because it's so expensive to live in california, it must automatically be better. Different things for different people, californian's just don't seem to understand.

California is about beauty.

Californians are about ego and arrogance.

There's almost nothing to hate about California, while there's often little to like about Californians.

Atleast that's what I took out of being my 20 year sentence there.

I live here and I hate the materialistic thing of the OC and parts of LA. I agree 100%.

That's only a small part though and you can avoid it. You have to decide who your friends are. Trust me, not everyone is like that.

I guess we all have to make our choices and I'd rather put up with some flashy money grubbing snob than a bible thumping bigot. What I'm saying is that each area has it's fair share of bad personas. You choose yours and I'll choose mine.

"Englightened," "progressive" California is a police state. It has the largest per capita of its population in prison and its prisons are the most dangerous and violent in the US.

That's what you think about? Are you worried about your safety? Don't live in the ghetto. You forgot to put the word "Diverse" in your post. With diversity comes a little bit of everything including crime. Most of those in prison are there for drug violations. We don't mess around here and if you screw up 3 times you're in jail for life (felonys). Since we tightened our sentencing laws we've sent a lot more people to prison. If you steal here you are going to prison. You used to be able to get off. I personally think it's a good thing. I do think we need to do something about our drug laws but that's a different topic alltogether since that's up to the federal government.
Criminals are citizens too, worthy of their rights no matter how "diverse." Drug laws are a hypocritical moralist agenda. "3 strikes you're out" laws are mob rule democracy at its ugliest, undermining the checks and balances of our system of government. Prison is graduate school for the thugs educated by a sick society. That California has so many prisons and so many criminals is not evidence of its safety, but its fear and self-hatred.

ppl have cali cuz it has stupid asshat laws like no smoking indoors, u can barely modify (performance) your car, etc.. CA is usually the first state to implement these retarded laws.

no smoking indoors is a damned good law.

not if its a bar owned by a private owner

Still a damned good law.

Recently there is a town down south which passed a law banning smoking anywhere that non-smokers congregate. That's an even better law.

That would be my town...unless there's another one down here doing it too.

Alexandria Smoking Ordinance

As for California. Maybe you're all better than the rest of the country. Maybe California is the biggest, bestest place in the world. That's great. I'm proud to have such a great place as part of the country I live in.

California does remember that it's part of this country right?

Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.
Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Let them swim

I think that this is one of the biggest issues. People get crazy amounts of money selling their house in California, then go somewhere else and find that they have lots of money to spend ... they drive up housing costs because they're willing to pay top dollar (gotta re-invest the money or give it to the government).

Then they tend to get involved in PTA and other neighborhood organizations and try to change everything to the way it was back in California.

I hear this is really pissing off all the White Supremacists up there in Boise.
