What are they teaching kids these days?

Apparently that freedom of speech is not welcome in our schools.

We banned prayer. Is that not freedom of speech or do we continue to have those on AT who are selective about what we can be "free" about?

You can pray at school all you want. What is banned is the school promoting prayer.
Hey don't confuse him with the facts!

Fact-Something believed to be true or real:

Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, schools well censor almost any prayer they can to prevent a sense of impropriety or a lawsuit. What the USSC decision said and what reality is, are two different things. I ask you and HendrixFan to join me here in reality today.

I'd wear it... :p;)
I semi-agree it was a good idea to send the kid home.. I mean.. freedom sometimes goes too far. That could get the kid hurt let alone offend people. Good he stands his ground and has firm beliefs. but that's too far IMO. :)

Seems to me that the school decided that it was best to face the Free Spech advocates rather than have to deal with the turmoil that could erupt if that kid was allowed to wear the shirt.

Dearborn has a massive arab population, one of the largest in the country. A shirt like that is a time bomb.

Im not sure where you think schools will prevent kids from engaging in prayer. In know that the "meet at the pole" happened every year when I was in school, and still continues today. There are religious clubs. A student can pray anytime he wants during the day, and people wouldnt even notice.

Prayer over intercoms or having school officials group kids together for the purpose of prayer has nothing to do with 'you', the individual, from praying. It has everything to do with 'you' pushing your prayer onto others. As a school official, that isnt acceptable. I live in Texas where the most recent USSC case started, and I followed it closely. Im not sure what "reality" you have been exposed to, but it seems to differ from mine.

I say kids should be allow to wear whatever they feel like to school.. depending on what you wear and not wear, being able to go home safely is up to them.. If they wear or not wear something and gotten kicked, beat up, raped, etc ,, they'll for sure think twice next time on what or what not to wear.
