Platypus, I don't know any gay 12 year olds. I hope they aren't having sex at all.

sadly there is and they are.

but i blame that on society. kids are being pressured to grow up far to early. but thats a diffrent thread.

Irrelevant really, just because you don't know any doesn't mean they don't exist. Look at loki's post.. he was a scout... and who says they have to be 12? Who says it can't be the scoutmaster? Point is the same.

I would not want a gay scoutmaster around a 17 year old who can give legal consent in the state in which I live. Actually its younger than 17 to be honest. This sets him up for liability and BSA.

however, why is it ok for the Gov to discriminate against gays, but not the BSA?

What do you think gay adults start as? You think they just wake up one day and like men?

you don't perhaps, and most probably are still closeted, but i know this, when i was 12 i knew what i was attracted to even if i didn't know how to act on it, it was something not learned, but fundamental to my being. and no, i wasn't gay. i'm sure most guys figure it out their own sexuality without having sex at that age😛

No, I don't. But at 12 I wasn't going gosh am I gay or straight...hell I was like,,,mom can I go to my b-ball game this weekend and play Softball too?

And I'm sure return missionary meetings here in Salt Lake City where I live are always held free of charge here at Marriot hotels for another reason besides the LDS church being the largest holder.

What is so silly is the BSA doesn't care which "God" you worship, just that you worship one, yet their defense for being anti-gay is mostly based on Christian doctrine.

What about Hindus and Buddhists where homosexuality is not specifically antagonized? Can those kids join?

That I know nothing about so I am zipping it until I know more.

Everyone is missing the point...our own gov. discriminates against gays, but the BSA can't have their own policy?

Very well put.

we are nto saying they do not have the right to discriminate. in fact that has been confirmed by the SCOA.

we are saying IF they want to discriminate then they can not receive any government subsidiary's.

As has already been mentioned in this thread, invariably the actual and legitimate complaints about the boy scouts discriminating against homosexuals are about gay scoutmasters. Incidences of actual gay boys are rare as most boys are still unsure of their sexuality at that age.
Now... gay scoutmasters with young boys all alone camping in the woods. That's a cliche, isn't it?

If you remember what Martin Luther King Jr. said in his Birmingham letter, and I am paraphrasing, a society does not have to accept UNJUST LAWS. Just because the government, particularly this one, decides to suppress gay rights to appeal to their base does not mean it's right.

"we are saying IF they want to discriminate then they can not receive any government subsidiary's. "

But our own gov. does against gays.

most come to know they are gay at puberty. kids are hitting puberty far younger then 12.

at 12 i was more intersted in sports/science etc then girls as were most of my friends.

today kids at 12 look and dress far more mature then they did when i was 12.

No one is replying to that "point" because it is IRRELEVANT.

the goverment has always had double standards. thats the goverment for you. but since they do it does nto make it right.

If I understand it right, the owner of the hotel is of the LDS Faith, and that certain individual is rich enough to give out freebies, my husband use to live near the person who owned it.

Our gov. - No you can't discriminate or use our marina because you don't let gays in.

BSA to gov - Why do you discriminate against gays and we can't?

Gov to BSA - Shut up and pay...

BSA to Gov - Thats a double standard supported by anti-bsa followers.

Gov to BSA - Yes it is.

Gov to Gays - No you can't marry.

Gays to Gov - Why not we are americans who love each other.

Gov to Gays - because the bible tells us so. and you can't be married because its not following the bible and the sanctity of marriage.

Gays to Gov - You are stupid.

Gov to Gays - We know.

LMAO

Fettsbabe, do you think what the BSA is doing is very becoming of a christian? I'm just curious for someone's input who is involved in the BSA.

Hindus and Buddhists are welcomed, and the prohibition against gays in the BSA is a pre-emptive move against (what would otherwise be inevitable) destructive litigation.
Your post here shows you to be a confused individual, if you think that Hindus don't worship a "God," or that cultural prejudices against homosexuality are solely Christian.

It's somewhat difficult for me to read such posts that try to appear to be up in arms against discrimination, while at the same time are loaded with bigotry. Have you ever heard of live and let live?

I think there's a need here to repost this:
