Within the first few days after the inital Anthrax cases were reported, I saw a local talk show with a panel of guests from a wide rtange of backgrounds - military, foreign affairs, public health, National Guard, etc...
What was interesting was that they all had read the same book, as had the host. (They had read it at different times.) It was a fiction book.
In the book, there was a group that was planning a large scale biological attack. Before the large attack, however, they sent out different strains of the Anthrax virus they had developed in the lab to various semi-high profile locations. They were basically "test driving" their viruses to find the most lethal strain.
The scenario in the book was remarkably like what has been happening. (This was noted then - it seems even more similar now, with the virus popping up all over the place.)
Does anyone know if these are the same strains of Anthrax? It would seem like an effective way to practice test runs to see which virus was most effective before launching a large scale attack.
I'm not trying to panic anyone, but that tehory sounded very plausible then, and even moreso in the last week.
