Antennas disguised as trees

What's the deal with them? I guess they're supposed to look more "natural" than a metal pole, but in reality they draw more attention than a plain antenna.

Maybe in California it will work with their tall trees, but here in NJ and PA, you're driving along looking at the usual 40 foot trees than all of a sudden there's what appears to be this 200 foot high redwood standing on the side of the PA turnpike. If it was a normal antenna people wouldn't think much of it, but since it looks like a freakish out of place giant tree, it really stands out.

here in California they tend to put them next to a few established trees, and they're really not any taller than the real trees. I rarely ever see them at all, except for the ones that I know are there, which I think speaks for the pretty good job they've done camoflaguing them.

I looked for a pic, and found this. Keep in mind that this pic is from some guy who took a pic in Idaho, while in NJ and PA our real trees aren't anywhere near as high, but the fake one looks just like this.

I know a guy who own's a large greenhouse (well, lots of small ones in one place actually) in eastern PA, and he let them put a cellular tower on his property. I was driving by one day and saw it decorated like a tree, and it took me a second but I figured it out pretty quickly. No joke though, a lot of his customers come in and ask him what kind of tree it is.

WOw... that's tall as fvck. Doesn't look so bad with a bunch of trees... but I can see how it would look out of place in a place where there aren't any trees.

thats not camo! thats all the different cell carriers packing on one pole! 😉 I say stick with the way they were/are unless they improve service.

I believe it's because of birds. Birds (pigeons, etc., not wild birds) tend to avoid trees because of the natural tendency to keep alive but they love antenna towers and they can only mess up the signal or maybe the antenna itself. Only one who's worked on those things can give a more accurate reason, but I think that's it.
