Antenna

My dad's 96 accord has a built in antenna in the rear/front and it works great... My friend's (new to her) grand marquis on the other hand... intermittment reception issues. It may just be a connection issue but the rear antenna could also be bad. Have you guys used any aftermarket antennas that are easy to mount and without requiring drilling? I'm thinking of using something like this...

What is that antenna for? Is it CB radio? FM?

The antenna itself likely won't go bad. I would check the coax cable at the antenna and at the antenna connector for the radio in the car. The antenna needs to be securely mounted to the body of the car to ensure a good ground. Obviously the connector at the radio should not be loose. (These can be pulled off of the coax accidentally.) Also, make sure that there aren't any small strands of coax shield that are shorting the ground and the center pin together.

Autozone/Advance Auto Parts sell replacement antennas with coax. If the coax is loose or broken just replace it with an aftermarket.

Most magnetic base antennas are for CB radios, cell phones, or GPS receivers. They won't work with FM radio.

Most often then not, bad antenna reception has been associated with a bad ground connection. Try cleaning the contacts on the ground.
