Antenae question

someone gave me a radioshack antenna with like some knobs uhf/vhf etc...rabbit ears..
but it also has a power brick. I find that when its plugged in reception is better. and it seems like some channels have become widescreen...are they hdtv? i don't have cable so whats the best way to capitalize on this?

plug it into 220V

if 110V helps a little, then 220V should give you double better reception

I would guess the antenna has a built in amplifier and/or active filter.
