Antec 480W Neo Power, featuring customizable wiring:
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=17-103-924&depa=0

I saw this in the High End Buyer's Guide yesterday and was amazed. Why hasn't this already been marketed? I think it's one of the best innovations in PSU's since the ATX form factor.

Only problem: It's $150.

I see no reason for that price tag. Surely they could offer removable cables on the more average models for only a few dollars more.

You answered your own question. No point in marketing a prodcut that noone will buy at the price they are trying to sell it at.

No, that's not what I meant. I was reffering to the removable cables, and I'm positive they could offer them on say the TruePower 431W, which is like $60-$75. That would sell.

I have a pile of unused cables from my Enermax 460W stuffed into the lower 5.25" bays in my Chieftec Dragon. They're fairly hidden (I have a window), but it would have been nice if I didn't have to deal with hiding them in the first place. It's a lot of work to route unused cables.

Heres a "better" example.

http://www.ultraproducts.com/

X-Connect

the specs look nice, and the cables are alot cleaner, just wondering on how it performs.

anandtech review?

also comes in three chrome-ish colors for you modders.

$100 right now from several places.

they charge that much because no one else has it. as more companies come out with removable cables (which i'm sure they eventually will, it's a great idea) the prices will more than likely come down. that is pretty clean looking tho.

Awesome! Too bad I've never heard of the company. I like to stick with high quality PSU's, usually from Antec or Enermax.

sounds like an ignorant statement

most people haven't heard of PC Power and Cooling and we know their track record.

Antec's Neo Power is nice but the ultra from face value looks nicer, I've read some reviews and it seems the reviewers say its quality as well.

I'd like to hear from someone who has one or knows of anything bad about them.

I have the Ultra, X-Connect, I bought it from EpowerhousePC.com..... it's a fantastic PS, excellent quality and extremely nice looking.. it's also not loud, and it's 500W!
it has a lot more output than my Vantec ION had, and so far it's working like a charm.

Here is a pic of it in my system!

 I understand where you're coming from, but usually if a brand is very good, it will be popular. I know that's not always the case, such as PC Power and Cooling. They're gaining popularity though. I'm simply not one to be a guinea pig, so unless I can find some reviews or talk to some owners, I won't buy an unknown electronic product.

Yep, that's what I've been getting all evening. If you write out the url with no code, it will work: http://www.anandtech.com

clean system, I have been eyeing this PSU for a while and have been bouncing back and forth between the ultra, the antex truecontrol 550 and the PC Power and cooling 510 deluxe ($200)

I like the 510 deluxe but dont know if I can stand paying 200 for a PSU, since I'm not an extreme overclocker and dont have case lights etc.

I will have a 6800 ultra FX-53 and 4 120mm fans, so juice will be needed, how much however is the ???

I think it's the two 12V rails that are almost or as strong as the single 12volt rails on a lot of their psu that drives up the price. Most of their psu don't have pfc either, but I don't know if that really affects price all that much.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind for next time, seeing as I can't edit the current posts!

Wasn't flaming you bro, just pointing out don't judge a book by its cover.

google search "ultra x-connect review" and you'll see 5 or so which all give it high marks (credibility of sources are another topic.)

but, I would rather see anandtech or hardocp review this PSU to confirm any of those reviews...we'll see

The reason its not popular is b/c its a brand new PSU, and hasn't been in stock much until the last week or so.

Agree on this.
I bit the bullet and bought it.. you can't go wrong with an expensive PSU and this is no different.
the PS is very high quality, it's very heavy and the supplied cables are very beefy and quality feeling.
so far so good, I am very happy with my X-connect!!! :)

Ok, sorry about that. I won't be buying a new PSU for a while since my Enermax 460W has been running great for over a year, but when I decide it's time to upgrade (SATA support, cabling, BTX, whatever), I'll consider anything :)

User reviews are usually what I go by. For example, MSI's motherboards often score high ratings in reviews, but my own experiences with MSI have been mixed. I've had much less trouble with other brands. Heck, I have an ECS K7S5A that's more stable than an MSI K7N2-L I used to own (yet my K7N2G-L is flawless). User reviews tell the same story; many people are very happy with MSI mobos, but there are also a huge number who have had the same luck I've had.

Gerbil333, it's very true.
Most people with power supplies usually only have problems with generics, not much else from what I've seen.
hell I haven't had any problems with any major brands except Enermax (I believe they are over-rated) but overall Enermax works fine...

I must be an exception. I had a couple mobo's that refused to boot with anything generic or half-way decent. All the PSU's worked perfectly in other computers, but these motherboards would only boot with my Enermax 431W...they REALLY sucked up power I guess.

I have the Neo 480W and its a good PSU. Of course I didn't pay nearly that much for it (~$115). Part of the reason for it being more expensive is that it has dual 12V rails. It also has a line dedicated to fans, and it has a temp sensor that it uses to determine fan speed. Its nice and quiet as well.

What exactly does dual 12V rails do for ya? just wondering... I am not sure if I've heard of any benefits or any reason to want that...

I have a NeoPower 480 as well and I basically have my GF6800 on its own +12v rail while the cpu, etc is on the other, everything is very stable and quiet.
the single 120mm fan is very quiet even under heavy load.
The ultra x-connect is very nice too, my friend bought one of those instead. The box is decieving though, Now this is not importnant, but funny, for such a nice looking psu, the box was really looks like it came straight from the 80s, like an action figure box. hahah. Only thing missing was a little blonde haired kid giving the thumbs up. :p
The psu is really nice and well made though, though its not as quiet as the NeoPower.
