I just finished building my computer today and when I started it up everything was going fine. The hardware was working then all of a sudden i hear this long beep so i turned my computer off. i turned it back on and then went to see what temperature it was running at and at first it was running at 39 and kept on going up till it reached 70 degrees celcius and once again the long beep sounded. I immediately turned off and i took off the heatsink and took off the red padding on the heatsink and restarted my computer again. this time the temperature huffered around 54 degrees, but i still think it is too high. I am using the thermaltake volcano 2. Any advice on lowering my temperature? I am not even running any programs cause i haven't even set up the OS. Thanks!

You took of the pad but did you put any AS or other thermal compound on?

jcvkang: I have a T-Bird 1.33 @ 1.54GHz and, for the moment, I'm also using a Volcano II. My average idle temp yesterday was 51c.

I checked out your rig and I suggest you do the same thing I did last night: order a better HSF combo. (I ordered a Thermalright SK6/Delta 60mm combo from plycon.)

In the meantime, apply some thermal compound and be sure the heatsink has good contact with the chip. That should drop your temps a couple of degrees.
