Antec vs. Thermaltake: 480W PSUs

I've got $100 to burn at MicroCenter. I seriously thinking about upgrading my PSU from the Codegen 350W that has served me well. I want to get at least 450W, if not higher. Aside from overall quality, I'd also prefer a respectably quiet supply.

The current contenders are:

Antec TrueBlue 480 Watt Power Supply
-From the posts here, a lot of folks like the Antec supplies, particularly the TruePower line
-Although I like the large 92mm fan, I can do without the LEDs
-How quiet is it?

Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480 Watt Power Supply
-No comments posted here to date?
-I do like the 'silent' designation
-If I had my choice of color, I'd definitely lean towards black, as I am considering the Ahanix Landrover, even if I never do any modding (no plans to do so)

Other MicroCenter PSUs
-Any thoughts on Seasonic, Soyo, etc.?

I just picked up a True Power 430,... it's really pretty quiet. It uses a tempurature response system to keep the fans running slow unless they are needed, also comes with a fan only connector that you can use to hook up your case fans and the PSU will controll them too.
I also hear a lot of good things about the Enermax noisetaker PSU's but no one around here sells them and is the main reason I went with the Antec.
I also hear good stuff about the Turbo-cool PC Power units,...but I'd bet that would be well over your $100 limit.
If you don't mind a little more noise I have had excellent results with Works and Raidmax PSU's for about half the price of the Antec and Enermax.
 
I've got the 350W version of this PSU in my Dad's PC and it ran my system without a hiccup before it was passed on. The fan is adjustable (knob on the back) from hairdryer to silent, plus it's a nice shiny silver color.
 
so far my Thermaltake Silent Purepower is running like a charm. Rails are good, plenty of power and it's quiet. Also it's a decent bit cheaper than Antec. Don't get me wrong...antec is top of the pile as far as quality...but Thermaltake is almost as good and it's cheaper.
 
Using Thermaltake Butterfly 480W now and is really silent with auto fan control. Very powerful also, I love it.
 
Oh, I definitely wish I could get NewEgg prices at MicroCenter! But, the wife thought she was doing a very good thing when she got me this gift card for my birthday. I really can't complain, but I still haven't used the card in two months. :/

Anyway, it looks like there are more "negative" feedback posts for the Antec on NewEgg. Still less than 15% altogether, but I certainly wasn't expecting it. Just over 30 feedbacks for the Thermaltake and the Antec.

Enermax has a new 470 watt psu that got a great review over at spr and they are pretty anal about stuff.

EDIT: Aren't those TT psu's just rebadged enlights?
 
I went with the Thermaltake. Very nice unit. I'm seeing roughly a 2-degree C difference over the full range of the fan controller. But I can now truly claim that other fans in my system are responsible for most of its noise.

i just picked up a antec 480W 2 days ago! im very impressed very quiet and its the little things like gold plated connecters for maximum conductivity 🙂
 
Im impressed with my 420W Purepower and my dads 480W Xaser TT PSU's.

Powerful and quiet. One of the few things that Thermaltake seems to do right it seems.
 
I have had no issues with my 480W Antec TrueBlue PSU, it's very quiet, and keeps my rails extremely steady.
 
i dont know how you guys are claiming that the trueblue 480 is quiet...well its quiet at 1800 rpm, but most of the time, 90 percent of the time, its running at 2700-2900 rpm and therefore is the loudest part in my system. drowns out the other fans.

...try your next RAM upgrade or something from MicroCenter. Stuff that even B&M has to be somewhat competitive with.
 
Given the current state of memory prices, I don't think its really fair to compare one vendor to another. MicroCenter is typically good for an occasional fire sale on one or two decent items (Samsung CDRW+DVD combo drive for $30 not too long ago, for instance).

My TrueBlue has never gotten to those fan speeds, it always stays below 2000RPM. Maybe you should look into a replacement or better system cooling, because you don't want your PSU having to exhaust that much hot air. In reality it should never be running that high, hell, that is running faster than my Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu HSF...definitely not good.

Yes, but certain things like RAM (and optical drives) B&Ms almost always have small markups and regular rebates. Even Staples charges an arm and a leg for power supplies, usually.
