My friend wants to upgrade his Power supply since he will buy couple more scsi drives for his system. We went to the local store and he narrowed it down to two power supplies: Antec Truepower 430w and Sparkle 400w. They cost the same price. Which is the better power supply?

He wants the following:

1) Quality
2) Quiet
3) Runs cool

I have both Antec 300w and Sparkle 300w, both are awesome. What are you guys' opinions?

If they cost is the same, I would get the Antec power supply. If one was cheaper I would get that one since they are both great PSU.

Sparkle PSUs are freakin' awesome! However, the 400watt PSU is not quiet. It's not crazy loud, but it's louder than I'd like. I haven't used a 400watt Antec yet.

I bought the Sparkle 350W PSU for my new 1.6a system (at office, for time being). Wow, the fan inside is powerful. It creates a wind behind the case. I like it! :) Not sure how loud is it compared to the current computer (at home). I changed the fans in my current p3 800mhz all to panaflos.

I've only had experience with 3 PSUs. The current (old) psu came with my enlight case. It runs fine, no problems. The PSU (unknown) in my k6-2 300mhz system died.

I've gone through dozens of Antecs and Sparkles over the years. Only had one bad one each. I would feel comfortable using either one.

They're both good units. The Antec Truepower series has thermostatically controlled fans, and a lead that you can plug your other cases fans into to have them regulated as well. I would go with Antec, much easier to return if it does fail. Antec has good warranty support.

Six, since when are you an old guy with a beard?

Anyhoo... I agree. They're both EXCELLENT power supplies, but if you ever have a problem with a Sparkle, then your left looking for someone to RMA it to. Antec is easy.
