Newegg's got the Antec VP-450 power supply for $29.74 shipped after the promo code of EMCNBHG22 (found on the ps's page.)

Not quite as good a deal as the dearly departed Antec HCG 400 deal, but no rebates involved. +12V output rating is the same as the HCG 400 (30A or 360W), but only 80+ rated, a step below the HCG's Bronze rating so a touch less efficient, and no PFC either.

Thanks. These are now my go-to PSUs to use in a pinch for a client build. They seem reliable, and cheaper than the EarthWatts series. May just pick up a few more.

Edit: BTW, as I understand it, these are made by FSP. Not quite as good as SeaSonic, but still a decent PSU mfg. One review managed to get 550W out of one of these.

Grabbed one. 80%.... shmeity percent... it's cheap! Thats all I care about. And it's an Antec. Never had one fail on me.

Gonna use it in a cheap build around a celeron sandy.

Thanks!

Was gonna grab one for a media box, then I realized it's not 80%. I are sad.

Why? Read this exerpt from Hardware Secrets' testing of this ps:

Efficiency was between 80.3% and 85.5% during our tests, which is outstanding for a budget power supply. The only reason this unit can’t get the 80 Plus certification is that only power supplies with a PFC circuit can be certified, as the 80 Plus certification requires a power factor of at least 0.900 at full load.

So, to me it looks like it should have easily obtained 80+ certs. except for no APFC. Its efficiency certainly is quite good for a very inexpensive power supply with its worst efficiency at full load. And lack of APFC really isn't good or bad, it'll just never get sold overseas in most places, like Europe, just here in the U.S.

Why? :: snip ::

Because most of the machines I build are on 24/7 and I'd rather pay a few bucks more for a PS that can achieve that 80% efficiency at idle loads (and while being stressed) for the savings over time.

I didn't bother to look up any reviews on the unit other than the specs listed on NewEgg. I'll wait for the CX 430 Corsair for $18-$20 AR the next time that deal is around.
