Antec Veris Premiere: compatible with MediaMonkey, VLC..?

I've ran across this nifty little add-on for cheap enough here in EU, and I'm wondering if it's the right thing for me.

Quite simply; if I'm not playing a game or watching a DVD, my computer has music coming out of it. All the time. Constantly.

Right now I have a hi-fi connected to the audio output of my laptop, and control the volume with the hi-fi's remote, while using my laptop's media keys for pause, MediaMonkey launch, stop, forward etc...

What I'm wondering is whether this system would allow me to forego the hi-fi's remote for example... Or I could sit further away having dinner at my dinner table and control DVD playback through VLC via the remote.

This is a new computer build which will run Linux + W7 (not hoping that Linux will even see the interface but eh... one can hope 😀) and therefore I do not know what DVD player to use. I'm reasonably familiar with VLC and well, it's free and works just fine, so I figured it'll be what I'm going to use...

Des it sound like the Veris Premiere could make me happy?
The case will be sitting a bit higher than one the ground and it will be VERY easy for me to reach for the Veris' control screen...

Thanks 🙂
