I am building a rig and wonder if this PSU will run this efficently

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce SPP 100 ATX AMD
AMD Opteron 165 CPU
G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM
ASUS EN7900GT/2DHT/256M Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card(or something comparable)

I dont want to upgrade later, but at the same time money is an issue. Will this PSU work, or should I go with a higher wattage? Thanks very much for any opinions!

It's overkill, that system would run on a 400W seasonic s12 (and run better on it). The antec TPII range has a bad name for longevity due to capacitor issues and fans that run slower than they should. I'll avoid the issue of why you're spending $100 more than you need to on the motherboard for now... ;)

Yes it will work, no it's not a great choice.

Lots of people use the PSu you are wanting to use. With no problems at all!

As far as over kill not necessarily!!!

Bobthelost has his reasons why he claims anything over so many watts is over kill. Yet the majority of those of us who also know will tell you to get whatever makes you happy!!

As far as your spending $100 more that other say you should on your mobo just ignore them!!
Whatever makes you happy!!

Nice mobo by the way!!

Also somebody will eventually pop in and start spewing forth about bad caps or a noisy PSU or a low efficiency PSU.....just ignore them.

Supposedly the CAP`s in my PSU are crappy too...yet nobody on the badcaps.com forum can tell my how or why in the face of bad CAP`s PC Power & Cooling is not plagued by CAP issues....oe why they have a reputation for reliability and quality and supurb customer srvice!!

Things that make you go hmmmm

So keep on truckin Dude!!!!

Heh.

Yoda, this guy wants ADVICE so he'll be HAPPY he saved MONEY.

Do you plan on overclock?

If not, [and even if so] don't get that board o_o

If you're overclocking, look into a DFI-Ultra-D.

If you aren't.... Biostar has a realll nice board out right about now ;)

Grab an AMD X2 3800+. They're overclocking just as well now. And they run cooler.

RAM and Video card are nice. :D

That psu is fine. I love mine. That capacitor issue was from a while ago with the old true power version 1's..... They are great psus.

Quality over quantity always.

I would go with the 380 watt Seasonic S12 for that build.

Fortron AX450 FTW...just as powerful as the Antec (dual +12V rails @ 18A each vs dual +12V rails @ 19A each) and you save some cash.

Thanks for the input guys. I know this isn't the mobo forum, but the reason for my choice of MB is that I want something that is high end now so that I won't have to upgrade. When I build this rig I will have it for 3 years. I will eventually get another video card or something like that, but that is it. I thought it was hard buying an HDTV, but this is just as hard. I have never overclocked, but with school ending for good, I might give it a try with the additional time. The DFI board is nice, but I thought it was more expensive. I will check all of these PSU's out and make a choice. Still have some time to do it as I will not finalize my rig for 2 weeks.

EDIT: Looks like that motherboard is not as expensive, my bad!

Check my post in the Hot Deals section for great deals on Sparkle PSUS. They are the same as Fortrons, just OEM, and cost a lot less

I used the Antec Truepower II 550 up to just a few weeks ago. Never had a problem with it. I replaced it with an Aerocool Zerodba 620W modular PSU, because I wanted the cleaner look of the sleeved cables and the convenience of a modular PSU.

I bought my Antec when it cost roughly $120, the prices now make it a heck of a bargain.
While not flashy, the Antec will do the job. Are there better? Probably, but I don't regret buying my Antec.

I have a TPII 550w and it's been rock stable for me. Running the comp in my sig 24/7 for the past 7 months. I heard that the capacitor issue was just with the TPI series, not the TPII.

550W IS NEVER OVERKILL IN A SYSTEM WITH HIS SPECS!
If you ever plan to SLI or if your gfx card is one of the higher end cards, you want to keep over 500W. If you plan to overclock your mean 165, your going to need at least 500W. Make sure you get something thats sli ready if your going to sli because it has 2 dedicated PCI-E connecters built onto the PSU.

I personally use 500W PSU, and at peak with 2 7900's and 2.8ghz oc, my TWV peaks at 415W when playing a mean ass game. Since PSU's on average are about 70-85% efficent, by getting 500W im close to the pwr max. :T

But think carefully b4 you chose your pwr raiting. How many drives, how many opticals, how many video cards, and are you overclocked? Most rigs that used 7800GTX's in SLI used two power supply configurations because 1 PSU alone was needed to feed those bad boys, and imagine the pwr requirements on X1900XTX X-Fire

Actually that mobo the OP chose is just fine for over clocking also...
I have always used ASUS mobo`s.....even for over clocking.
I really see not too many issues!!
But those other mobo`s are also sweet mobo`s!!

I have been a huge ASUS fan!!

Good Luck!!

i don't see anything wrong with the A8N32. i have it and i overclock with mine. i've never had a problem with Antec PSUs. i've owned 2, one of them being a TrueBlue 350w that came with my old Lanboy case and a SP2.0 500w. both were stable and had no issues when overclocked 24/7. only reason i switched to a Seasonic S12 600w was because i wanted something a little less noisy then the Smart Power that i had in my current system.

Theres nothing wrong with the mobo hes planning to get, he'll be able to get very high stable HTT's with it (I've got an A8N SLI Deluxe that tops out at 350 stable HTT).

I'd say go for the 500W Seasonic if you ever plan to go SLI.

There's also an Enermax Liberty 500W on sale at Newegg for $99.00. You could also save a lot and get an XClio 450BL for like $45.00 unless you plan on going SLI.
