antec truepower 330 gives off annoying hum

has anyone else noticed this? I thought that maybe the noise source was my panaflo l1as, but even when I turned them down to 5v, I can hear this high pitched whine from my psu. Although it's fairly quiet, I'd like for it to go away period or at least dampen it a little more. Thanks.

dont notice this on my true power. as a matter of fact i think the true power 330 is one of the quietest power supplies i have ever owned.

I have a Truepower 330 and two 120mm fans running off the fan leads. I can barely tell when my computer is turned on. I need to figure out what's going on with one of my Maxtor hard drives though, it's making this annoying throbbing noise.

I'll have to agree with most of the comments posted above, my TP330 is very quiet.

Does the hum you hear seem to be fan noise or something else? Some power supplies start to "sing" before they die. I don't want to startle you, but if it doesn't appear to be fan noise, maybe you should have your power supply tested - especially if you're having stability probs.

Hey Morph my 40gig Maxtor is making that throbing noise also. Its hella annouying. Isn't there a way to slow down the RPM of these hard drives?

I think you can put a jumper on to quiet it down but I doubt it would fix this throbbing. My drive is a liquid-bearing, is yours?

Your power supply is probably vibrating against your case, causing the hum. try removing it from the case, and plug it into the wall, without being hooked up to anything and see if it still hums. (Using the ATX PS trick)

If it doesn't hum, it's vibrating against the case.

This can be solved in a couple of different ways, make sure it is secured in the case well, get the screws tight and jiggle it a bit to see if it moves at all. (it shouldn't.)

you can try and put rubber washers in between the Case and the PSU

you can also put a small piece of padding (usually a piece of cardboard or foam works) under the PSU, so there are no vibrations in the spot where is rests.

If its not vibrations, call Antec and get a replacement, because there is probably a problem with the PSU, and it *may* lead to damage to your system. Antec is a wonderful and reputable company and should gladly replace it.

As for the HD issue, how old are they? They might be going bad, in which case you should find that out quick, so you can replace them without losing data.

good post ness... I was hoping someone else would think that is wasn't the PSU or a fan and talk about case vibrations 🙂 you stole my idea.

I just got a new ANTEC SOLUTION SERIES MODEL SLK3700AMB w/ANTEC SMART POWER 350W P4/AMD POWER SUPPLY. I also noticed a high pitched hum (or whine) that seems to be coming from the psu. I used the same hard drive from my old computer which didn't make this noise. It doesn't sound like a buzzing case vibration. The asus probe and BIOS both show good, stable voltage levels and the system runs very stable. I don't have a lot of hardware, just the basic stuff. The strange thing is I've found that if I move my head around, I can find places where the noise disappears. So I moved my computer over about half an inch and the noise seemed to disappear. Must be some type of resonate thing.

the smart power and the true power are two completely separate lines created by antec. i don't actually own either one of these, but from what i've heard, the true powers are next to silent, while the smart power's noise level is much more noticeable.

i currently own the 330W enermax whisper, and have been considering replacing it, but it's pretty quiet and rock solid. also, my roommate's computer is freaking like 5 times louder than mine already cuz he's using some generic 400w p/s. maybe once i finish college and move back home i'll continue my quest for the silent pc.

Does it sound like a motor-related noise (a buzzing / humming) or an electrical-related noise?

I once had a cracked capacitor in a Dell power supply that caused an extremely high-pitched noise, so it had to be replaced.

I can't remember if the TruePower lines have two fans like the SmartPower units, but if so remember you're likely to get that much more noise. I have two SmartPower p/s (350 and 430), and so far have only good things to say about them...
