I just got a True Control 550 power supply and am curious if there is any risk involved in rigging 7 volts to case fans. TIA for facts/opinions.

I assume you are planning to wire the fan connectors to cross the 12 and 5 volt lines to get 7 volts right? If that's your plan you should have no problems.

Yep, just using +5v as the negative for 12v fans. I've done it before, but always wondered if it can cause problems with different p/s's, and was curious especially since Antec True Power are supposed to use different circuitry than most.

For something with as low a current draw as your average fan (or even a few of them), it probably won't be a big deal. I wouldn't try hooking up any high-drain devices like that, though; you could cause the voltage on the 5V line to go up considerably.
