A coworker of mine currently has a 9800 Pro and wants to buy a Gainward 6800 Ultra Golden Sample. He currently has an Antec TRU430 PSU and wants to know if it would be enough. I told him I wasn't sure and would have to check.

Antecs are made well and so he should be fine. I believe their recommended ratings were counting on the fact that many people use crappy no name PSUs.

My Antec 430 let me down when I got my BFG 6800 GT. I had to unplug 2 of my IDE drives to get my system stable. It kept rebooting until I remove the 2 hard drives.

It depends on what else is in his system, but for 99% of people, an Antec 430 should be far more than enough.

There was a review posted yesterday which showed the power consumption of the 6800 and X800s.

At load I believe the Ultra was pushing 73 Watts at load. A 430 watt ps is more than enough.

Could you elaborate?

There's not much else to tell. If you check my system, I have a raptor, and 2 80 gig ide hard drives. I also have 2 optical drives that I'm using, and 2 fans. I tried unpluging one of the optical drives so I could use one of the ide drives, but it didn't work.
