Antec tricool = *thumbsup*

I never noticed how much air my 120mm tricool pushes, its a lot! much more than most fans I've used

that is all

I actually replaced the Silverstone FM121 I was using on my Big Typhoon because after I did an informal noise/cfm test, I found that the Antec sounds less noisy (the Silverstone has a bit of a whine to it) at the Medium speed. At the same sound level, both push about the same amount of air. Plus, the Antec provides some much-needed flavor to the inside of my case 🙂

wow, so many recient fan threads.

Sorry they dont perfom near the same as a yate. The tricool on high will make a lot of noise.

A 67CFM yate will produce less noise and push near the same air as the tricool on high.

So i cant stress how many times i need to say this. YATES! FTW!

Yup, Antec fans have seldom been considered top picks. That they would have a manufacturer move their label to the rotating hub side of the fan (with the potential, often realized, for imbalance that offers) so Antec could put their own gaudy sticker on the visible side (in their OEMed PSUs), shows that they really don't know or care about fan functionality - it's just another segment of the market in which they can make some more money.

.bh.

i agree, on low they are very quiet but push little to no air. On high they push a ton of air, but a quiet loud.

according to ppc the antec does 80 cfm at 30dBa http://www.performance-pcs.com..._info&products_id=3310
and the yate loon only does 70 cfm at 33dBa http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa1.html

If these numbers are accurate, the tricool would be the better choice. I know fan companies lie like crazy though on these stats, and I havent heard both side by side to tell the difference. Do these numbers seem right to you aigo, or anyone else that has experience with both of these fans?

I bought one for my new case but in my bios it could not find fan2 running that is strange I leave it at high speed cuz it doesn't bother me I can't hear at all.

go out and buy a 3.50 yate. at jab-tech.com

Jab-tech is a bit cheaper then petras and has a larger yate collection.

Trust me, that tricool will look expensive and very wasteful in front of a yate.

I have 5 Antec Tricools in my P180B case (modded 3 of my 5.25 inch drive bays to add that 5th fan). The original 3 fans that came with the case were the black Tricools. I thought they were decent enough, high setting was too loud, but medium setting was almost quite enough, a tad loud but acceptable enough because low setting didn't seem to push much air.

So went to my local Fry's and bought two more Tricools. Unfortunately all they carried were the LED versions. And these LED Tricools, unfortunately like any LED fan I've ever tried, sucked. They were louder at the same speeds and both of them started making intermittent squealing noises. So when anyone says anything nice about the Tricools, I gotta believe they must be talking about the black ones.

I just bought 10 Yate Loon D12SL-12 fans from Jab-tech for $2.80 each. I probably should have done this much earlier. Cheaper than what I paid for my two Antec LED Tricools. Haha. I hope these are as good as the legends say they are.

Antec tricool fans aren't the best, but they perform pretty okay. You could buy far worse fans. If you can replace them for cheap with less noisy fans then it's a no brainer though.

not on a bragging note.

I run about a 500-600 dollar watercooling setup on my main rig. So no expensive was spared when drafting her.

I went though almost every fan one could possibly think of to match the best setup with the best eq.

The only 3 fans which i found to be "worth it" was the enermax marathons, Papst, and Sharkloon golfballs.

I dont use those three fans, because those fans will run you near 20 dollars each. In my main system, i have 6 fans just for my main radiator, and then another 2 for my GPU radiator. Now the only way i would use those fans would be if i was nit picky about a few extra cfm, which would most likely do almost nothing for my system.

You wont be disappointed with yates. If i found them to be good enough for me, chances are unless your a cooling freak, which then you'd be on phase, and not air or water, You'll absolutely love them.

I agree that yates are really quiet, but the ones I have (D12SLs) don't move a whole lotta air. The built-in fan control on my Yate appealed to me, so I can use that if I really need to push some air. FYI, I can't get Speedfan's fan control to work, and my motherboard doesn't have any sort of speed control.

sunbeam rheobus FTW!

I just replaced my rear Antec Tri-Cool with a Yate Loon DSL-12SL, as well as the Panaflo high-CFM 120x38 on my Ultra 120 with the same orange fan.

My CPU load temps dropped by 5C. I am very surprised that anything changed at all - I thought it would only get quieter.

In order to run my Tri-Cool silently I had it set on Medium speed. This Yate Loon is pushing more air at a lower noise level IMO. It's easy to compare b/c I have 2 Tri-Cools still running in the front of my case. I have enough Yate-Loons to replace them all, and I will probably do that tonight.

FWIW, it took me 6 weeks to get my YL order from Nexfan. I don't recommend ordering from them. I had to email them and ask them WTF was going on, and 4 days after that they did not respond except to send me my stuff. No apology, no credit - nothing. And they never answer their phone. OK sorry didn't mean for this to get so off topic.

Nobody mentioned Scythe? I love my SFF21E (on a U-120 extreme)...considering replacing the tricools in my P182 with more Scythes, but they don't have the speed control, which is somehwat annoying for control noise...

Anyone use/care to comment on Scythe fans?

But that costs money 🙂 a lot more than what I paid for for my fans (yates were $3; Tricools were $3.33).

ya I've seen this as well. Open corner fan versus closed corner fan. Gonna look it up, since I dunno what it is either.

EDIT: All I found was this " the standard clip to attach the fan to Thermalright heatsinks requires a standard, open corner fan. Fans with closed corners, like the orange Nexus "Real Silent," have a solid tube spanning the gap between the mounting holes in the two faces of the fan and can't use those clips."

I still dunno what this "solid tube" is though.

Go here.

Look at the pic on the very bottom. See how the pictured fan is basically two square plastic "plates" connected only in the middle by the circular casing of the fan itself? There is no plastic spanning the space between the plates on the outermost edge, including the corners. This allows you to get the mounting clips into the hole for screwless attachment, as pictured. Hope this helps.
