Antec SX630: Installing the Floppy drive?!?!?!

I just got a brand new Antec SX630 from Newegg, and I love it (except for a poor manual but anyway). But, I am having trouble getting the Floppy drive installed correctly. Here's what is going on. When I install the Floppy in the bottom 3 1/2 external bay like the manual says, but when I try to re-attach the Bezel, it doesn't snap in place, and further, when I insert a Floppy, the Button on the Floppy comes forward, but the one on the Bezel doesn't, so I can't take a floppy out. So I then mount the floppy in the upper bay, but when I attach the Bezel, the floppy is too deep in the case, and when I move the Floppy forward as little as I can, it's way too far out!!! Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this just my floppy drive or what? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

I don't have the Antec SX630 ...... but have experienced similiar problems with other cases, a few things to try:

Remove both side panels and leave the plastic bezel installed as you install the floppy, that way you can adjust the fit as required, or:
Leave all the screws just snug (not too tight) then install the bezel, allowing the floppy to be positioned properly with a little effort.
(remove the bezel and re-tighten the screws, or retighten in place if possible)

If nothing else works you can use something (washers?) for shims to properly position the floppy drive.
Or you can use a small, round metal file (such as for sharpening a chainsaw) to elongate the mounting holes for adjusting the fit.

Another option is to use a file and remove any obstructing plastic on the front bezel ........ ?
You could always try a different floppy drive ........... they are almost throw-aways, since they are so cheap.
I hope some of this helps ....... good luck.

PS: yours is not the first post I have read with the same problem on the SX630!

If it's the same as the 800 and 1000 series, and it sure looks like it's set up the same, the floppy should just slide in from behind with the bezel attached. I don't think I've ever had to remove a floppy's bezel to install it.

I have an 830. Ran into a similar problem trying to get the front on. Turns out the door panel interfered with the bezel attachment. When off it went in easily. Then put the door back on.

I just built an SX635 system for my dad, here's what I did (pretty much like chumsum said):

1)Remove the plastic cover around the 5.25" bays/floppy drive area.

2)Leave the bezel (plastic front panel of floppy, I assume?) on. Assemble the floppy into the drive cage but leave the screws slightly snugged down, not tight. Push it as far foward as it will go. The plastic bezel should touch the front of the case when its assembled correctly. Screw the drive cage tightly into the front of the case.

3)Put the plastic cover back on over the bays/floppy area. This should butt up firmly against the floppy bezel now.

4)Remove the plastic cover, then carefully remove the drive cage containing the floppy drive. Tighten the four screws holding the floppy into the cage, then reassemble everything. You should be fine.

I have two SX600's, and I think you just have to make sure that the buttons line up and that the FDD is the right depth. I've never had to remove the drive's front bezel. Perhaps there are floppies where the button is in a different position, but I'd guess they must be pretty rare. I've sometimes not gotten the floppy far enough forward and had to re-install it.

Speaking of Floppies, anyone know of a good cheap source for 3.5, 1.44MB drives? Looking for $10USD or less shipped???

That's the only complaint I have for my SX635...I spent the LONGEST time trying to get the zip and floppy inserted just right to fit. They should mark the cage or something to show you how far in or out they should go. (Hey itwas my first build, okay?:)) Initially the floppy disk would slide in with difficulty and then NOT pop out. (It was hitting the top of the bezel). The suggestion to remove the front panel of the floppy did not work. Finally I put pressure on the floppy so the front was down a bit at an angle as I tightened the screws. That made the difference. There ought to be more allowance in the bezel for this.

It's a great case though...wouldn;t trade it.
