The 1040 has a door, doesn't it? So it doesn't really matter what color the drives are (one of the few good reasons for having a door - hiding mismatched drive colors). But I would guess the silver drives would match each other more closely than the factory black of different mfr's drives. And, at least to my taste, silver always goes well with black. However, say if you were to choose both a Samsung floppy and a Samsung burner, then the drive colors may match. And I understand that the normal Antec "black" really isn't black but more a browny-charcoalish, so most black drives won't really match the case. About the best you can hope for is that the various blacks harmonize decently...
. I like to take my drives apart and paint the control buttons a contrasting color with Testor's model paint - black gets silver, beige gets dark brown and grayish gets flat black or royal blue buttons. Makes it easy to locate the buttons and looks cool. Sometimes I paint the drawer fronts too.

As Zepper said, the case isn't really black but rather a charcol grey. I'd go with a silver since black isn't going to match anyway.

Edit: Just opened my door and took a peek at the one black thing in there which is my Samsung floppy. Not even close to the case color. Go with silver. My $.02 anyway.

Also note that the door is cheap. I mean the first time i took it out of the case and took off the door, one of the hinges broke. Other than the that, the case is fantastic. Go with silver unless you can somehow find antec's charcoal gray.
