Antec SX1040BII & PLUS1080AMG

What are the differences between the 2? The AMG series looks like it has the TruePower PSU and the 1040II has the SmartPower?
Anything else, advantages between them?

Well...the obvious, the 1040 you mentioned is black where as the the 1080 is Antec Metallic Gray. The 1080 comes with a place for a fan in the side panl where the 1040 has a solid panel. You can purchase a panel with a fan and/ or window in it for extra.

The only other difference I know of is the 430W Truepower with the 1080 versus the 400W Smartpower with the 1040. The truepower is a far superior PSU, but the smartpower is still very respectable and near top of the line.

truepowers are nice cause they have the "fan only" power connectors to undervolt fans so its quieter.
im trying to sell my smartpower 400W i got out of a case cause its too noisy

using the fan olny connectors how do you undervolt? software?
do the fans run at max if you dont fool with the undervolt?

The fan only connectors are undervolted by the fan circuit in the Truepower. The Truepower is quiet becuase there is a circuit that varies the fan voltage between ~5v-12v based on what is needed. This voltage is supplied to the fans inside the PSU, but also there are 2 4-pin connectors you can plug fans into. THere is nothing you can really do to control this.
