Open up an Antex SX1040 case and look at the inside, bottom. There are two plastic brackets which hold four each of a piece I can't make heads or tails of. It looks like a piece of white plastic with a metal end (almost looks like a razor - is this to commit ritual suicide if you fail with your install?). What the hell are these? They're not identified (that I can see) in the manual. I can't believe they serve no purpose. Are they maybe just stiffeners?

they are drive rails. you screw the cd-rom and floppy drives into them then simply slide the drives into their respective bays. The plastic part will make sure it is in straight, and the metal part will clip to the metal frame and prevetn them from moving.

Now can someone tell me what the plastic thing is connected to the bottom of the case and the inside. Made of same plastic and is same color of fan cages. Has a bunch of small openings on it. No idea what that does.

Many RAID adapters are full-length, especially those with a battery backup on board.

It's a card holder.
When the IT guys come around and work on the box they write down the date and what they have done. They roll up the card and stick it in one of the holes. Then it is there for the next person to see the service record.
