I want to get an Antec SX1030 for my new system, but I'm worried about it's 30-35lb weight. With a full system in it is this going to be too heavy to carry? I'd probably move it once a week or so. How hard would it be to put handles on?

Also, could anyone point me to any other options that have all the cooling I need built-in that would be lighter for a LAN case a similar price? Thanks.

LOL. I rep 35 for curls and rep 165 for bench, so I'm pretty average on strength. Should be np to carry it, but what I'm really wondering is how hard it would be to put a handle on that and whether or not it would break off. It's pretty bulky so a handle is a must. Any sites that sell handles that would work in this situation?

You just have to attach the handles to a really sturdy part. Should work fine. Try PC Mods and see what they have. They're our upcoming sponsor, email 'em and ask you questions, I'm sure they can help you more than I can about this...

I got off an elevator in NYC a few years ago with this guy that was carrying a fat mid-tower by a handle. He was a salesman for some software package optimised for dual processor machines so he carried his own dual proc with him on the road.

Adding a handle really shouldn't be all that difficult. A trip to the hardware store and some curiosity should do the trick. In fact, I'm thinking of doing the same to my new Antec 1030! :)

I'd find a sturdy, good looking handle first.

Then find the mounting hardware. Nuts and bolts perhaps, or rivets if you've got the tools.

One thing I *would* do is either get some big, fat, juicy washers, or a thick steel plate to put inside the case to distribute the load. (Thick being no thicker than .125") I can imagine that the head of a small bolt (or a small nut) could quickly open the mounting hole large enough that it'd slip through.

Interesting... a computer sling!

Still, for $37 U.S., I'd be tempted to do it myself.

But hey, what can I say-- I'm a cheapskate!

Go to our local hardware store and pick up a couple of handles used on kitchen cabinets. There are many different styles available. I picked up a couple of black chrome handles for a few bucks and mounted them on the top panel of my SX1030 using a .625" aluminum plate under each handle (inside the case) to distribute the load.

Works Great!

Wow, old thread. I actually already have this case and the PC tote. The XL PC tote for $20 from 2cooltek works great.

To answer your question, I just built up my system with the Antec SX830 and it isn't too heavy. We have lan partys about twice a month. The handle thing is a good idea though. Just can't bring myself to drill or cut on my new box, yet. My wife would kill me.
