Antec Sonata Question

Will the power supply that comes with the sonata be sufficient for the system I am putting together? It will have an A64 3200+, 6800 GT, 2 IDE hard drives, a CD-Rom drive, and an CD/RW drive. Thanks.

probably not with that 6800 GT, You'll probably want to replace it with a 480 watt antec one. Or even higher.

yes it will. only the 6800 ultra and higher will require a 480W psu. the gt and below are made for running off a quality 300W or 350W psu, so you dont have to worry about it. 380W will be plenty, as long as you dont overclock too much.

I don't plan on overclocking at all.

Yes, it will work. Im running a A64 3000 with my GT along with 2 HD and 2 DVD drives and 2 Case fans on my 350W PS. (16A on 12V rail)

People today are power junkies, a high quality 350watt antec PSU is more than enough to run any standard system (unless you have 3 hard drive, a 6800 Ultra, and 1.8v on your CPU). However, I'd recommend getting the Antec SLK3700AMB. It's cheaper and better designed. The Sonata has two major faults. First, the hard drive trays block a lot of air flow. If you only have one hard drive in the 3700AMB, it doesn't even block the 120mm. Also, having the fan be in at the end of the drive cage instead of in the front of the case sucks air in from the entire front of the case, not through the air filter, so your case is going to get full of dust quickly.

i agree. i wonder why people get the idea that the GT takes up so much power. even hte antec 380W is enuff to handle the 6800 Ultra. when they recommend 480W psu, they are talking about cheap, generic psu's, since thats wut 80% of the consumers have.
