Antec Sonata problems w/ USB in front

I can't really tell if this is a motherboard issue (Epox 8RDA+), or a problem with the USB cable in my Antec case. I plugged the case's USB cable into the motherboard's USB header, and it doesn't work. However, there's a piece that came with the motherboard, that you pop into a PCI slot and plug into the USB header, and that works fine.

I'm thinking Epox went with a non-standard pin-out on their USB header. I checked the manual and it shows me how the pins are set up.. if only I could check the pin layout on the Antec USB cable, I could narrow this down. Is there any way to test the Antec USB cable without another motherboard?

I would suggest you check where the cable connects into the usb thingy on the case......I would be surprised if epox was doing something unique in the usb world. Do you have to activate that in the bios?

Nope, don't need to activate it in the BIOS. I had it working just fine when the USB PCI extension card was plugged into it. But it doesn't like the Antec USB cable for some reason.

When you say check where the cable connects, what do you mean? What am I supposed to check exactly? I mean, it's intact... I'm not sure what else to do.

I had a similar issue with front usb on an ASUS mobo. Turns out the mobo didn't like the 5'th black wire on the USB plug. You know how some plugs are pre-setup for the wire order, they look something like this:

xxxxx
xxxxo

Anyway, the top right most 2 wires are black on mine. It turned out that I had to remove the right-most wire. Once I did that, so there were 4 wires per row, it worked fine... (by remove, I mean pull the wire out of the plastic housing and simply tape it up with electrical tape. Don't cut it off. You may need it some day...)

Give it a shot and see what happens.

Check out this thread

There are front panel USB pinout issues with the Antec Sonata cases, I am guessing this is the problem you are experiencing.
