i'm planning to replace both 120mm fans on my antec sonata (original). the rear exhaust fan is simple enough, but the front intake fan is a bit trickier.
has anyone successfully replaced the front fan? how difficult is it to remove the front bezel?
AFAIK, the original Sonata (and the newer ones still) come with only a rear fan as std. equipment. The front fan mount is on the rear of the HDD rack - stupid I know (very easy to remove if there was one there) as it will mainly just circulate in-case air, but there ya go... Perhaps someone was able to squeeze some thin fan in behind the bezel somehow. Bezels usually mount in one of two ways or a combo of both: 1- A clip arrangement where they snap in thru the front panel of the chassis or, 2- A handful of screws out thru the frone panel of the case and screwed into posts in the back of the bezel. Shouldn't take long to figure out which it is. A web search on- Antec Sonata review -should locate at least one review with pix of the areas of interest.
Here is a pic: http://www.virtual-hideout.net...tec_sonata_case/34.jpg -you can see that there is no front fan, but there is the cleanable, "permanent" filter which slides out from the bottom. The text from this review also explains the clip arrangement that holds the bezel in place. You may just need to clean the filter to get better cooling...
That must be an unusual occurrence as the front fan has always been optional on the Sonata. Your reseller must have decided to have his come that way or added it themselves. Was it the same as the rear one?
