I hooked up the blue LEDs on my Sonata to the Hard Drive LED header on my motherboard.

Works great.

I wish I could make a video, but it looks nice.

All I did was find a jumper with wire leads on it and use a pair of alligator clips to clip them onto the +5v and the corresponding ground wire of the molex connector that goes to the blue LEDs, then plugged it into my motherboard. I used the female power connector on the splitter since I was scared the alligator clips would short together if they were clipped onto the male side.

Im sure if you were to want something more permanent, you should probably just use a power splitter and cut the plug off the splitter and just connect the wires directly, but I used the alligator clips since I was just messing around to see if it would work.

The best part is, the lights are clearly visible during HD access but not nearly as blinding as when hooked straight to +5v on the power supply. Also, when your PC is doing nothing during the night, your room won't be lit up while you're trying to sleep.

I still wish I could turn them into VU meters. I guess I would need to build a small amplifier circuit for that (sound card only delivers 1 volt max, you'd need at least 4-5 volts max for it to look good). Probably not worth the hassle. But I'm sure there are a few crazy guys that will do it.
