Antec Solo arrived today..

I would have to say I'm a bit disappointed, this case does not compare at all to my Lian Li PC-6070B in build quality, ease of installation, and "quiteness". My Lian Li PC-6070B is SILENT compared to this case, using the exact same hardware.

The only thing about the 6070 is that the airflow isn't as nice (no 120mm fan)... oh and I'm not using the front 2x92mm's on the Antec Solo.

So far, temps are pretty good.. 35*C on AXP 2500+.

I'm going to assume that you picked up the SOLO for $50AR because it seems everyone on these boards that is getting one got one from the deal. That being said, you're comparing it to a case that is triple the price so that's not really fair is it?

The Solo is $80 originally and the PC-6/70 is $100. But for the $50 price tag you can't be complaining. I hope my Solo arrives today 😀 Seems everybody else is getting very quick shipping.

Yeah well I got the impression because of all the Antec worshipping in AT and other forums... it is nothing, nothing compared to a Lian Li.

Actually it's $80. You pay $80. You don't pay $50. I hate rebates.

WTF do you mean, Antec worshipping? Haven't you read all the Antec PSU bashing going on? Regarding cases, if there's any worshipping going on, most of it is for Lian Li cases, with a tiny fraction for the Antec P180 - a single case, not a whole brand.

Anyways, I now have one Antec (Solo) and one Lian Li (PC-7BW Plus) in the house. Haven't used the Solo yet, but the Lian Li was difficult to make quiet. The blowhole design creates some noise and the side panels buzzed a bit - mostly resolved by bending the tabs to hold them on tighter. All fans are severely undervolted.

Ooooh, do compare the Antec and tell me how it goes

Dude, that's sad!

I promise I'll NEVER buy an Antec Solo!!!

Or, a Lian Li...

If Lian Li was so great, I assume you would never have considered switched brands in the first place, right?

Thanks! 😉

Thank you too!!!

That cements my resolve... 🙂

Which begs the question...

If Lian Li's are so great, why did 'Rip the Jacker' replace his with a lowly Antec? 😀

Or, maybe, it's this...

I dunno... they're ugly cases with ugly names. What's to like about them?

The PC-777 looks like a giant hardened exudate encrustation!

The mobo in the PC-V1000B Plus II is mounted upside down!

The PC-V800 exhausts hot air out the front, instead of the back!

And so forth, and so on...

If you want to worship them, have at it! 😉

The upside down mobo results in my x1900xt mounted upside down, therefore, the heatpipes are actually working with gravity.
70F room temp:
x1900xt w/ vf900 idle 39C, load 55C.

haha yea i guess vindiesel is right, lian li cases suck and are made of pretty bad quality that is topped by antec. oh and lian li case's are ugly too btw.

To each their own. I actually like (even before using the Solo) both the Lian Li and the Solo. Why? Well, they both have their "elegance in simplicity" look. The Lian Li has a bit more bling with the side window and the Solo has a more modern (case-wise) look. And neither of them looks like a transformer or alien.

Here are pics of my wife's Lian Li. I really should update it because, well, the only things the same now are the case, optical drives, sound card, card reader and SATA/IDE cables. I've since upgraded it with a 400GB SATA HDD, 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair ValueRAM, Abit socket 939 board (KN8 or something) with Zalman northbridge cooler, different front/rear fans that are purple LED (by request), purple cold cathode (by request), different blowhole fan to try making it quieter, 7600GT video card, 3700+ San Diego, Zalman 7700AlCu and a Seasonic 380W S12 PSU to power it all. You may spot a Zalman Fan Mate in the pic. Front/rear fans are on Fan Mates, CPU fan is on Smart Fan, blowhole fan is rewired for 5v. Noisiest part is the video card fan, hopefully soon to be remedied.

Actually, with heavy GPU cooling these days, I'm wondering why they decided that the "right" side of the card would be the good side to put components on, especially the heatsink. That is, given the current way things are mounted in a normal case. I suppose the folks at Lian Li may have thought that one through for once.

Only reason I switched from Lian Li was because the cooling isnt as great, (120 mm + 92 mm's + steel). And because it's steel, it's heavier than aluminum, which makes me feel a little more comfortable knowing that its stronger, sturdier than aluminum..

I just put all my parts into my new Solo! The HD mounting system with all the doors was a little difficult.. but the manual had everything I needed. I'm loving the clean look, and my system is quite a bit quieter then before.

just got mine today as well, the quality is very good. solo may got the heaviest side door ever with all the dense sound damping materials on it. everything is build well, and plenty of room. even the back panel i/o shield is a strong thin piece of steel instead of weak aluminum, but doubt it fits any motherboard out there. the paint job is really impressive, like a mirror. my only complain is the front plastic bezel could be thicker to make it stronger, and the power and reset button feel very weak with plastic springs instead of real one, they may be the first thing to break. btw, did anyone try to use 80mm instead of 92 intake? since i have many 80, and none of 92s, how do you do it?
