Antec SmartBlue350 plus processor cooling issues

Just installed a Antec SmartBlue350....and compared to the 300w no-name that came with my old 3dcool Tornado 1000 case, it doesnt seem to be exhaling out the case nearly as much. Is that where the quiet part comes in in, "SmartPower: runs cooler and quieter" ? All I feel is very faint very warm breeze. Ok i'm not blaming it on my cooling issues yet.

Also ordered some Arctic Silver 5 to replace the AS2 that I have been using for a while. I reused my PIII-1ghz and old Alpha PEP66 hsf. I don't consider myself a pro at applying this stuff even though I read the instructions from their site, maybe it's user error. But now my temps are jumping around like crazy.

At first I was happy cuz Asus Probe v.2.17.03 reported cpu was 89F but it had been off most of the day. But right now its at 93F and when AVG popped up for its scheduled scan it went to and around 122F(have 9 windows open btw plus AVG, Proxomitron, Trillian, OutlookExpress, and Asus Probe are running if that matters). Will jump to 104F while surfing edit: heck just jumped to 119F.

Yesterday I ran Q3A 1.29's demo four lots of times and it jumped up to 141F according to Probe! Staying at 113-127F for a good while. BIOS claimed 107-120F after demos. Mobo temp is usually 84F for probe and bios. Cpu fan is 4066-4166rpm for both as well. Power fan I assume is one of the PSU's or both(?) of it fans at 1095rpm according to the probe....powerfan is new to me, I guess its the lil psu connector I put on pwr_fan on the mobo.

My Tornado 1000 case has 4 80x80 fans mounted inside: 1 front bottom sucking in, 2 side blowing in, 1 exaust fan below psu. Oiled those and the hsf plus dusted everything. I may could organize the psu wires(tried to move used ones out of way and unused ones bundled up top almost in front of PSU vent) better but would that still cause it to jump to 104-119F while surfing and 141F while q3a demoing? Some sites say, "60-70°C depending on model", is the max temps for slot1(though i have fcpga) PIII 1ghz so I'd be pressing my luck tryin to play games like q3a. Should I wait for the 200hrs to pass on the Arctic Silver 5 to break in, remount the hsf, or try another? I forget but is the hsf suppose to come in contact with the AS5 and/or chip? Or have a small air gap? Is the psu possibly the culprit(any way to check if its running up to par)?

thx for your time

Take off the heatsink and put it on again. If you haven't changed anything else in the system (read BIOS update) the only thing that could cause higher temps is the cooler not sitting perfectly. And if you put on too much AS5 you might see a rise of a couple degress but not that much.
