ProVantage has an Antec SLK3000B black mid-tower case without a power supply for $28.41 + shipping.

The unknown is the shipping cost....may be a bit high for us East Coasters, but for $28, it may be worth a look. It's a lot more substantial a case as compared to the cheapie Rosewills and others that feel like they'll collapse or fold up if you so much as breathe on them too hard. Should be a safe, non-cutting case inside, too.

Of course, on this case like all Antecs in this style, the door hinges are its weakest point, but treat it right and it'll last years.

Link to case at ProVantage.

I bought two of them from Provantage. One last fall and one last week. The shipping to New York was $17.45 and the carton weight was 23.36 lbs. Worth it. Last fall the case was $10 more and the shipping was $2 less.

I love dealing with them. They are honest, reasonably priced, and ship fast. I ordered two hard drives from them last week on a Thursday around 5PM using standard shipping. I had the hard drives the next day because they had them in their New Jersey warehouse.

As far as the flimsy door on the case goes you can remove it unless you object to seeing drives. The included rear fan is a little noisy, but a quieter Scythe 120mm fan fits nicely. Noise is also transmitted through the extendable cpu ventillating port and duct on the side panel. Don't put it right next to your head and it will be fine.

The front fan filter (fan not included) is positioned so that dirt can go around it through a space at the bottom (retarded), but the space can be sealed with almost anything you choose. I used a piece of black insulating self-sticking urethane foam (Home Depot or even the Akasa stuff). Other than being steel it is built about as well as my Lian Li case for a fraction of the cost. In fact it has better ventillation.

John,

I agree pretty much with your assessment of the case. For the price, and even considering a $20 shipping charge, for $48 I just don't see too many other cases comparable to this one.

Like I said, the door's hinges leave a lot to be desired, but we've had one variation or another on one of our desks over the years....wife likes Antec cases, so she pretty much always has one.....she just got an SLK2650BQE last month because she liked the black color instead of the "bronze" one she had (an SLK1650). I paid over $50 for that case but it did have a 350W Antec ps included...big whoppee. The ps got tossed almost after hitting the door of the house.

Otherwise, she's never broken off a door yet...but they're never transported around.....just stays in one place.

I still think this deal is great! It's an excellent case at this price!
