SLK 3000B seems like a great buy.

However I wonder if it can be made quiet with the vents on the left side panel.

Anybody been able to make this a quiet case?

I guess it all depends on how quiet you need it to be. With slow enough fans, I'd imagine that it can be a very quiet case - check out the SPCR review of the 3000B if you haven't already.

Review: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article210-page1.html

My 3000B setup would be almost inaudible to me (I think) if the stock cooling on my 9800 Pro weren't screaming away all the time. I have a pair of Antec Tricools running at low speed and a 92mm Panaflo M1A running at about 80% speed besides the video card fan.

The case itself doesn't make much noise. Your fans do. ;) (Hey, somebody gotta say it)

I think most people would consider it to be a reasonable chassis for a low noise computer.

For Trippytiger: $16 with no noise for your video card I use these on a Radeon X800GTO (modded 16 pipes), a 6800GT and a 6600GT with no problems. All are mounted in cases with 120mm slow fans.

Yeah, the fans and hard drives make the noise, but it's the case that lets the noise out! I don't think the vents on the 3000B make much of a difference, though.

Thanks for that link, Zap; that's a really good price on a beefy passive GPU cooler. I'm just not sure whether I want to void my card's warranty yet or not.

It's definately a good pick because of its low price point.

I taped up my side grills because it lets in dust. I also don't use the duct because most aftermarket CPU coolers are too tall to be able to use it. And if you were serious about a quiet system, you wouldn't have bought a CPU cooler that was small or used a 80mm fan anyways.

If you want a silent system, you pretty much have to replace your GPU cooler ;)

The only thing I don't like about this case is resonance. I find that the HDD cage allows for a lot of rattling so I need to suspend my hard drives for even more silence. You'd be suprised how much noise the HDD induces into your case through vibration. That's my favourite part about the P150, but that case is definately more expensive and comes with a very questionable PSU.

I bought that case for my girlfriend, it's great and very silent for its low price.
Their included fans are not noisy.
For the side panel fan, get a 80mm silenx fan, they are very silent.
What's more, the Antec 3000B has the same chassis than the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream, so it's a nice choice considering the Thermaltake's case doubles the Antec's price.
I think that case is the most recommended in that price range.
Go buy it!

If you get an 80mm fan, get a Nexus. SilenX uses shady methods to pimp their products, as exhibited on SPCR and shouldn't get supported by users.
