Antec Reference Silver Thermal Compound

Mookow

Lifer
My ex-roommate managed to lose my tube of artic silver II, and to replace it, he got me a tube of "Antec Reference Silver Thermal Compound". It looks, on the outside, like a tube of Artic Silver II, and he probably didnt notice the difference until after checkout. Anyway, how good is this stuff compared to AS II? Anyone ever use it? Does it dry out after a few months? I'm helping a friend put together his rig sometime this week (it has a XP 2000+, so I dont want to have bad thermal compound on a CPU such as that)... should I use this stuff, or tell my ex-roommate to take it back and get me the real stuff?

The silver content is extremely low compared to arctic silver.

The Antec stuff is likely far better than the standard thermal pad on heatsinks, or normal silicone grease, but not quite as good as AS2 or AS3 (probably not as good as AS1).

I personally would take it back and get real Arctic Silver. It's not so expensive as to be worth bothering with the cheap stuff.

ive heard that antec reference is just rebadged AS2... as a matter of fact i read it somewhere on this forum... search posts for it it's here somewhere. sorry I couldnt find it my lazy self.
