Antec PSU...which one to get?

Hi All,

I'm in the mist of completing my system. However, I'm stuck on which PSU to get. I orginally wanted a Seasonic but have been reading that they are a hit or miss with DFI motherboards. I know that there is a Rev. A2 but some ppl are still having issues.

I would like a quiet PSU and have read reviews and forum suggestions regarding the Antec PSU to be quiet as well ( I know not as quiet as the Seasonics).

Of these two power supplies which is the quieter one?:

Antec TruePower 2.0 - 550W ATX12V v.2.0
or
Antec NeoHE 500W - High Efficiency ATX12V v.2.2

Any help or other suggestion are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Never heard of seasonic having compatability issues, but if you want antec then go NeoHE. It's a very good PSU, there have been problems with the HE and ASUS motherboards, but never heard anything about problems with DFI.

Look at SPCR for silent write ups, the enermax liberty 500W is also pretty good.

Thanks Bob,

I have tried to post my sig but it will not let me. Anyways, I have a DFI Ultra-D already (bought it yesterday) but when I started searching this forum it lead me to a DFI forum where a lot of people where having an issue with the Seasonics Rev.A1 (it was about a 50% success rate). I read the entire 25 pages @ DFI-Street and while some people were having success with the Rev.A2 psu there were some that were still having and issue.

I would like to buy a Seasonic but I don't know if I want to go through all the trouble of RMA'ing it.

By the way thanks for your input.

Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why a mobo would have issues with a psu to begin with - if it provides the power at the right voltage levels then why the compatibility issues at all?

Not having enough current on one of the rails (12v in particular) would cause issues. Some power supplies also require a certain amount of load on the rails in order to function correctly (I think this is the issue with OP and the Seasonic).

I have never had a TruePower PSU let me down. I'd recommend a TruePower II 480W or 550W unit. They have a single 120mm fan and are very quiet. I personally own a TruePower 550W, Truepower II 480W and TruePower II 380W and they are all superb quality PSU's.

Does it have to be Antec?
I personally think there are much better alternatives.

I second that. I'll go as far as to say that Antec are middle of the Road nowadays.

@ Ike0069

It doesn't have to be a Antec...I would like a good but quiet PSU. The rig is going to be in my bedroom and I presently keep the computer on 24/7.

@ PingSpike

A Forton is a good PSU but here in Vancouver,BC I haven't seen (actual or web) any store that carries them.

@ All,

Thanks for your input and if you know of any other suggestions please help me out.

I actualyl have a Seasonic Rev.A1, and it works flawlessly with my DFI board.

And forget the people who recommend Fortrons. They just aren't as high caliber as Seasonics or Antecs.

But I would still urge you to get that Seasonic.

Agreed, Antec's quality has fallen to the point that I'd rather get a Fortron these days.

Fortron is at least as good as antec, i'd normally advise fortron over budget antec options. However i do like the look of the NeoHe a lot.

Ive used antec's for many years now without any problems. I currently run their 550w TP 2.0 in my machine. Its stable and very quiet.

It seems here in the US there are still many people who think Fortron is mid-grade at best, when in reality they are one of the top PSU's in terms of reliability.
Fortron is extremely well regarded in Europe however, as is E-power/Tagan. Either brand would be a much better choice than Antec IMO.

Just got done upgrading my system due to a faulty Neo HE. Apparently I refused to believe a brand new Antec Neo HE could be my problem and I gradually replaced nearly every part in my system (kind of glad in a way but my old rig was still pretty beefy).

Long story short, after a long and rather painful session with an ASUS MoBo tech, he says "Oh sh*t, I forgot to ask earlier.......you have an Antec Neo HE power supply dont you?" Bingo. Dont buy one. Especially if you have an ASUS board.
