I'm poised to order a P5Q PRO with 4 gig of G.SKILL ram, one "basic" EVGA NVIDIA 9800 GT, E8400, one SATA hard drive and one SATA DVD/CD ROM for a Windows XP rig. I was going to order either the Antec NEOPOWER 550 PSU (3 12V rails) or the Antec Earthwatts 500 PSU (2 12V rails). I ran my config through the Antec Power calculator and both of these have enough power (by a lot). Both of these are rated as very good power supplies. I limited my choice to these two because I put together a multiple combo deals at Newegg which expire on 10/31.

I've read a couple of posts on Newegg site stating that folks had problems with the NEOPOWER 550 PSU and the P5Q PRO. I believe that the BIOS had to be updated to use this PSU. Is anyone using the NEOPOWER 550 PSU with the P5Q PRO? Any problems? If there are any tricks to using this PSU with the PQ5 PRO what are they?

Is anyone using the Antec Earthwatts 500 PSU with the P5Q PRO? Any problems?

I won't be over clocking this rig and I won't be adding a second graphics card. My sole requirements are ease of installation and ongoing stability.

If they both work I will probably get the NEOPOWER due to the higher watts rating.

I lwould like to pick one of these two if they are compatible because of how they fit into my current combo deals.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Either PSU will be fine. The issue between the Neo and that board have long since been worked out.

Thanks for the feedback. Does "worked out" mean that out of the box they will work together? Or, do I have to update the BIOS level to get them to work?

It turned out to be an issue with the PSU not the motherboard and antec fixed the problem. So you have nothing to worry about. If you do run into problems you should be able to get a new PSU from Antec with very few problems.

I have used a NeoPower 550; currently a NeoPower 650 Blue on the P5Q Pro. No problems with either.
