Antec PowerSupply & Case Cooling

The antec truepower series of PSU has two fans. The back fan sucks in air from outside the case and the bottom fan exhausts it into the case.


My Question:
Would it be OK to reverse the fans so that hot air isn't being put into my case? Has anyone tried this? I'm hesitant to do it b/c it will change the airflow characteristics within the PSU and I don't know how sensitive the antec truepower line is to this type of disruption.

Actually, the bottom fan draws air from the case INTO the PSU, and the rear fan exhausts said air OUT of the case. A PSU is just another exhaust fan when it comes to airflow.

Not to be confrontational, but I am 100% certain that my antec PSU sucks air in from the back and exhausts it into the case.

If you happen to have one of the 800-series or 1000-series models, you may consider flipping the PSU over so it is drawing air out of the top of the case. Details here.

That would be a first. The fans exhaust out of their strut side, and on all the 23 Antec TruePowers in my fleet, that means the bottom fan blows upwards and the rear fan blows out the rear. Granted, there are some slots on the front surface of the PSU which allow blowby.

Edit: I guess this means that yes, if your fans are installed backwards in the PSU, by all means reverse them!
