Antec Plus660 case - How quiet is the P/S?

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Antec Plus660 case. Just curious, how quiet the Antec "True Power" P/S is.

My main buying decision is for a quiet setup. I'm currently only have a P3 550 o/c @733, so I really don't have any big-time cooling requirements. Of course, I would like to get a P/S big enough to handle a P4; when I upgrade.

I've heard the Enermax P/S are very quiet but haven't found a matching case that I like. Any ideas on the sound levels of the Antec P/S? Any possible other suggestions?

Thanks and have a nice day!

No idea about the case (I was going to order one then realized it didn't have a removable motherboard tray). However not all Enermax power supplies are quiet (even the ones that claim to be).

I have both an Enermax and an Antec True Power in two computers. The Enermax is not too loud but I have no problem hearing that it is on. I have to find visual clues that the case with the True Power is powered up. It is as quiet as the Dell I have at work. Both require visual not aural clues that they are running.

As to the comment that the case has a problem since it does not have a removable motherboard mounting tray the 860 Performance Plus is very easy to work in even without a removable motherboard tray. The 660 is a little small for people with very large hands, but still is quite easy to work in. The only problem that I have had is attaching the front USB wiring to the USB 1.1 secondary header. (The problem is that all of the wires are seperate and you have to get 9 wires on nine pins of a 2X5 header.)

I run a TruePower 480 in my own box and just built a new system for a friend using an ANtec 660 case. In both cases the Antec TruePower PSU is almost dead silent. You have to pu your ear up real close to it in order to hear it. The Panaflo 80mm L1As in my case are louder than my PSU. The stock Antec 80mm case fan in the 660 is louder than the PSU fans.

The rig I built for my friend (P4 1.6A, no OC, retail HSF, Seagate 80GB cuda IV, ATI retail Radeon 8500, one stock Antec 80mm case fan plugged into the thermally controlled power circuit of the PSU mounted behind the CPU, and an Antec thermally controlled 80mm fan in the front of the case) is as quiet as a Dell, and certianly the quietest box I've built since my old PIII rig.

I think that this case/PSU would be very suitable for your needs. You could probably get away with only one fan mounted on the rear of the case, plugged into the variable speed connector. This would make for a very quiet rig, unless your vidcard fan is noisey.

Great! That's for all your help. The Antec case sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Cheers!

I'm sure the 880 is quite easy to work in relatively, simply due to the large open space. But it's far easier to work with a removable motherboard tray (as long as it removes the expansion slots as well and not just the back mounting plane).

Hello again! Thanks for all your help in my case buying decision. I finally went with the Antec Plus660. Actually, my wife gave it to me for Father's Day. It's very quiet as you all said it would be! Thanks for all you help!

Another quesetion... The Antec case has front mounted USB connectors. My motherboard does too, but the 10-pin wire connector is about an inch too short. Do you of anybody that sells a extension cable? I've tried my local computer parts store, but the rep wasn't aware of any such part on the market. Any ideas?
