Anyone have experience with the Antec Performance Plus 1080AMG? It comes with the highly ranked (by AnandTech) TruePower 430W. Is it really big (in size) in person?

i own it and its a really great case. its pretty big, check the measurements on the interweb. i can't fit it under my desk so its next to it. pretty damn quiet with the included fans, but i replaced them (comes with three, but i maxed it out with 5). no sharp edges, but there is no mobo tray. not a big deal at all, its really easy to install the mobo because the case is so big.
the one big flaw is the front door. be VERY_CAREFUL if you don't want to break it off...i broke it when i didnt screw the drive rails on right, so the drive stuck out too far and i tried to close the door..be careful when you do that.
removable front air filter is really nice. its pretty easy to keep the cables tidy also.
I strongly recommend it (buy it at www.newegg.com, its so cheap there even with shipping)

I own the performance plus 1000 AMG, witch is nearly the same minus the power supply, and mine has a window.

I must say that I love this case. There is plenty of space inside. The HDD rack is great as it include a place for a 80mm fan. Getting all of 5 fans spot occupied will give you absolutely great cooling. The case is huge and when you get it loaded it really gets on the heavy side.

I think it's a really good purchase. I have always loved antec's quality and customer service.

good luck!

Check out this sale Tiger Direct - $20 w/o power supply.

ive heard the cheiftec case is total crap. its just an antec ripoff, the build quality sucks. what do you really expect for $20??? if you don't really care, then get it its a helluva deal but its not high quality.

the price is not bad at all considering it includes a great quality power supply that retails for $70 itself.
btw, mine DID come with thumbscrews for the back.

The Antec 8xx/10xx family of cases, the Cheiftec Dragon series cases, and the Chenming 601 series are all the same case. The bezels are slightly different but the underlaying sheet metal is identical. I think Chenming is the manufactuer.

Xbit case review including both Antec and Chieftec.

Quote from review, discussing the Antec:

"The manufacturer positions this model as a SOHO File Server, and it is actually a redesigned Chieftec DX-01. The main difference is noticeable on the front panel where there are two new indicators that are supposed to be used as SCSI LED or Message LED.

Inside, the case is perfectly identical to the Chieftec DX-01 model, so there?s no sense in repeating the description."

 seems like i read some reviews and people said the antec-"ripoffs" had sharp edges (made overseas for cheap), etc. but ovbiously that isnt true.
how can they sell that case for $20 though, thats crazy! no psu i know, but still.

I have the Chieftech "knockoff" from a few years back (old 1080) and it's been real nice,
the case itself is top notch, drive rails, fan brackets, are all the same as the Antec. When
I add two more HD's to the SATA connectors on my A7N8X-DX I asked Antec for an extra
fan bracket and it fit perfectly. The only problem with the Chieftech "knockoff" that I have
is the PS was a "420W" PS... But is was pretty unstable... IMHO the Antec PS is the real
draw to their cases

I really liked the Antec 1080 series. They are heavy and well built, except for the front door. Really easy to break off (which is true for most Antec cases). Lots of room inside, which is good if you plan on water cooling or stuffing it full of drives.

I've since switched over to the Antec SLK3xxx series. These are a few inches shorter than the 1080s (which reduces the amount of interior space), but, make up for things in the use of 120mm fans. The SLK3xxx series pretty much holds the same number of drives as the 1080s. You can make a fairly quiet computer with these cases. Another nice thing is that you don't need a really long data cable to hook up 5" drives at the very top of the case, like you would with the 1080s.

The Antec True430W is a good power supply to start with, but, personally I would buy something bigger (i.e., at least a Neo Power 480W). You won't come close to filling up a 1080's drive bays before that 4320W PSU is over taxed.
