Hi guys,

Been reading for a while now so decided to join up to ask a question. Regarding the P180 cases, if moving the top fan to the front of the case, is it necessary to duct off the vent? Seeing how hot air rises isnt it good enought to let the air just escape out the top of the case while the rear exhaust help push air out?

Also, from ur experience is it better to keep the rear exhaust on or the top exhaust on or wouldnt it make a difference? Thanks.
 
Welcome zorrt to the forums 😉 In my scenario I found it to be best to block off the top vent. My desk allows me to do this as a shelf sits on top perfectly. Some P180 users are using the top vent for an intake and getting great results. I opted not to do this for 2 reasons : 1) introduces dust w/o a filter 2) noise. I am a silence fanatic and the noise coming from that vent IMO greatly reduces the silence this case can achieve. I use 4 120mm in my P180: one for lower chamber intake, one for upper chamber intake, one rear exhaust, and one on my XP120. All fans are below 1000 rpm. I tried all the fan config's and this is what worked best for me. Everyone will get different results (diff components, oc'ing, room temps, etc...) so my advice to you is to try all the possible fan configurations, test to see what noise/temp ratio's are to your liking, and go with what you conclude to be the best for you.
 
I use the top opening as intake and this allows my ram to run cooler and helped lower temps..I am running a CM 120mm 21/22dba IIRC
 
Thanks JBDan. I will give it a go when I get home, just don't wanna spend too much time testing various setup cuz I feel it could be better spent playing games hehe.

I am using the XP90 with 92mm Panaflo which is loud as, case temp 30*, CPU temp (3200+ venice no OC*) 30* idle/34* 100% workload. Quietness, no where near
 
People prefer closing off the top vent because it creates a more constricted wind tunnel. Cool air comes through the front, and warm air goes out the back. There's no cross-turbulence from the top vent.
 
I don't personally have a P180 (yet 😉) but I do have one lined up for my new rig I'm going to buy within the next month. There's alot of P180 discussions on this forum, so just do some research and test it. Do whatever you like best 🙂
 
Using a config similar to JBDan (sound reasoning) but with a PentD and stock Intel cooler, it lowered load temps by 10C.
