Go to nexfan and get some Yate Loon D12SL-12. They got the buy 2 get 1 free deal again. Not as hot as when they were $4 each + $2 discount on S/H deal, but still a good deal on some awesome fans.

28 dBA on the Yate Loons is still pretty loud, isn't it?

I have the same question as the original poster, except that for me money is no object when it comes to buying fans. I need the best possible fans for P180B and I don't care how much they cost. By "best" I mean "most quiet and pushes the most air." Is there anything like that around 19 dBA?

I bought some Xilence Red Wing fans which are great value for money. They are quieter then a normal fans (e.g. the ones that come with the P180). imo the 21db noise claim is accurate but not the 68cfm. I use a fan speed controller (mCubed's T-Balancer Big-NG) so for non-intensive cpu use they run nearly silent.

Lots of quiet fans at:

Nope, they are almost dead silent. I have 4 in my P180 case (one on CPU, 1 in PSU part, 1 in front and 1 in back). Put them to a Rheobus and they are completly silent.

Yate loon is one of the few companies who's noise ratings bear any relation to reality. To get a 120mm fan near 21dBA needs a good quality fan and rpms of 1,000 or less.

If your fan is quiet enough for you then that's all that really matters, most people don't consider 120mm fans @ 1200-1400rps noisy, i'm just a bit more fussy/picky/sensitive/anal about it. :D

The tricools the case ships with aren't bad, but if you're going to replace them then go for Yate loons if you can get them.

One problem with Yate Loon fans and the P180. The top exhaust bracket will not work with the Yate Loon fans as they come. You'll have to mod them. The bracket won't fit because there is a solit post between the 2 sides of the fan casing where you screw it to the case. You'll have to dremel that part off to get it to fit in that location.

Can you link to some fans like that?

Yate Loons with a fan controller. It's the best way to go. You can get a Nexus 120mm fan, but all it is, is a Yate Loon that runs at like 800RPM. I purchased the 4 Yate Loons and I love them. Silent is great.

I think the nexues are closer to 1000rpm, but a yate loon and a fan controller (or motherboard controlled) is cheaper and easier.

This is the way to go in my opinion. You can always turn up the YLs if you need the extra CFM, can't say the same about the nexus fans. Another, more expensive, option would be some Scythe fans. They are also very quiet @ the same RPM of the YLs, but go up to 1600rpms where the YLs only do 1350. Unless you get the medium speed YLs, but they're harder to find.

Looks like I can't use YL fans because of this.

I don't wanna dremel anything or pay anyone to dremel for me.

Hence what is the best fans I can use in the P180B without any dremel work being done?

Go read SilentPCReview.com , like them, I don't use the top vent. You can just tape it up with Aluminum Tape (The type you use for duct work) and be done with it. They say it actually helps make the flow more efficent. Not only that, you are reducing the noise level by one fan!

You are still better off with the YL or Nexus (which are 3 - 4x the price per fan for almost no gain).

I think you'll see (also by searching this forum) that most people agree that YL are the way to go. You already made a great choice with the case. The YL with a fan controller will give you the optimal control.

Sad thing is...I always always leave my fans on high! I'm glad I got the Rheobus fan controller, but the case and fans are so quite I can't hear it at my feet with the fans at full throttle.

It's ONLY in the upper exhaust area where the fan doesn't work without mods. You can get another brand or use the stock fan in that position.

exactly. And its soo easy to mod the fan. I just used wire cutters and cut the little post out rather than dremel. Not as neat, but no one sees it in my case.
