antec p180 at fry stores for $79, opened the box and found a p182

so i bought two
Edit I went to the Manhattan Beach store I wanted 2 cases one silver one black
Manhattan Beach only had silver. When I opened it I discovered a p182. P182 has fan controls on the outside of the case, cut outs on the motherboard tray to route the cables behind the motherboard and rubber gromets on the back of the case for water cooling. I called City of Industry (only has black) they had the black case. When i got there I opened it. It was also a 182. No way to tell going by the serial numbers on the outside of the box. If you open the box do it from the bottom and look for the fan controls. Also I think the 182's in the 182 boxes only come in gunmetal and chrome gunmetal 159.xx and chrome 2xx.00

The P182 has like some stuff in the back of the case for your fan controller (I think)

It also makes it easier to route your cables behind the motherboard tray (so easier cable management)

And maybe some other subtle stuff (Gunmetal, anyone?)

Actually the p180 just has the same mods as the p182 now. I guess its just cheaper that way, the only difference is that p180s come in black and silver while 182s come in gunmetal and mirror.

Although I haven't even opened my P180 yet, I'd say its not worth it. (Or is it?)

BTW berney. what color P180 was on the box that you were supposed to get but ended getting a P182?

Based on the above links, that means I got a p182 as well.

However, you guys are probably looking into this too much. I think that all current p180's now look like the link above. This just makes more sense from a manufacturing point of view.

If you buy a black or silver p180, you will get a black or silver p180 (these just happen to look like the p182 in the link above). You will NOT find a gunmetal p182 in a p180 box.

Of course... I could be completely wrong about all this. 🙂
 
My P180 has that rear controller with the 2 fans (for sale in my sig). It's on all the later P180 revisions and has been that way for months. If you get old stock/revision, it will be different, but the newer ones have 2 fan controller and water pump holes. The main difference between the more expensive P182 and P180 is the color. So if it isn't that shiny chrome or gun metal, it's a P180, not a P182.
 
yea thats what i thought might have happend,but that means an $80 extra for a paint job. Guess im wrong.

DAMN!

I went to the City of Industry Fry's and I bought a silver P180...

It turned out to be exactly what the box stated it would be...a P180, not a silver P182! :|
 
I got 2 black P180s at work and they have fan controls on the back and the wire management cutouts and 2 holes cut in the back for water cooling tubing. I don't think it's a P182 though, I think they just updated the 180.

Oh that's great news...because I wanted those features but didn't like the P182 price lol.

Well maybe they also need to update their website because the back shot for the P180 doesn't show the pipe holes or the fan speed selectors. The P182 is an updated P180. The P182 comes in a standard black finish or the "SE" chrome finish. There is no mention of a silver P182, but that's what I got at Frys.
