You warned me, but I didn't listen. Bought an Antec P150 and PSU is dead. Doesn't even power on. It's Saturday and newegg is closed.

I'm going get a PSU from Frys to build my rig.

What should I do? Just eat the cost (well over $200). That's not right.

Will newegg or Antec exchange just the PSU? Any chance they'll give me a different model, one that, you knows, WORKS?

Any chance they'll reimburse me for the value of the NeoHE whatever that thing is?

Bummer. I was all excited to build my first rig, too.

This is not an attack of Antec. I like the P-150 case.

The Antec 430 PSU seems to be the most problematic PSU on this board.
IIRC, some of those came with broken seals on the PSU, so have your paper work handy.

Try to RMA the PSU to Antec, then sell it. That's what I would do.

Buy a Fortron for $50 to $80.

Damn, GY is really on it - I can't get a comment in before he takes the words right out of my keyboard and posts a great reply before I even see the original message. :D

I bought a P150 but the first thing I did was take the PS out. I orderd an Enermax Liberty 500 to go with it, and it's going strong.

How do you KNOW the PSU is bad? Tell us the exact steps that you followed to come to that conclusion.

My bad, I guess, but since he has been registered here over two years I figured he'd know how to test his PSU.

pctwo, tell us how the PSU was determined to be DOA.

1. comp doesn't power on with antec PSU
2. plug in another PSU . a)powers on = antec is the culprit . b)doesn't power on = whole new problem

or he could've used psu tester, which i doubt anyone uses.

Wow, it turns out I'm even dumber than I thought.

CPU is okay, it's my brain that's dead. (Yes I registered 2 yrs ago but this is my first build.) I'm too embarassed to say what I did or didn't do.

But now I have a worse problem: system doesn't post.

Antec P150, stock NeoHE 430
AMD X2 3800+
MSI K8NGM2-FID (using on board video)
Corsair 2x1Gb value select cas3
XP-90 with Akasa Amber 92mm
external USB Liteon 1663 (this is how I plan to install OS, boot from USB).
Western Digital WD2500KS (sata2)
PS2 kbd and mouse

That's it.

checklist:

installed CPU and mounted HSF (easier than the instructions looked). RAM installed in slot 1&2
mobo installed to case. everything screwed in nice and tight.
24 pin power connected to PSU. 12v 4pin plug power to cpu. CPU fan connected to cpufan plug.
drive connected via suspension (sata and power connected)
front panel -- power switch, power led, hdd led, reset switch.

press power button

power led comes on. system fan and cpu fan run. psu fan runs. keyboard LEDs flash once. so far so good.

but no video signal. hitting cap/num lock doesn't change LED.

Tried both VGA and DVI. Checked monitor with working Dell (it's fine).

So I began unplugging stuff. Took out sata. Then memory in slot 2. Then all memory. No change.

Hit SW1 to clear CMOS. Held it down for 5secs to be sure. Tried with power on and off. No change.

the antec has no speaker so I can't hear beep codes. I don't know if this mobo even has beep codes. I searched the pdf manual for the word beep and got 0 result.

Unfortunately, I have no PCIe or PCI video card handy to test.

Rechecked all remaining connections. Looked okay.

What to try next (easy, obvious things first). I don't have another s939 system. or AMD for that matter.

PS: to be on topic a little: the stock antec tri cool 120mm system fan is LOUD! I have it on medium. When I switched it to low, system wouldn't even power on (power LED blinks). I pressed my finger lightly on fan's hub to slow it down and confirmed that was what was causing all the noise. If the akasa makes any noise, I can't hear it above the antec (even when I slowed down the antec, it was still the loudest thing in the case).

Otherwise the case is very nice :)

I was wrong, but it turned out I was right. It didn't post because of the PSU. Bought another one (not antec) and everything is okay. Whew!

The lesson here is go ahead and believe what you read on the internet :)

Has anyone successfully convinced antec to RMA them a different line, like a truepower or smartpower? Or do they keep sending you the same model until you give up and stop bothering them?
