Antec NeoPower cable length?

I'm thinking of putting an Antec NeoPower 480 PSU into a Silverstone Temjin TJ06 case with an Asus A8V mainboard. The mainboard gets mounted upside down in that case which means the distance from the power supply to the mainboard power sockets is greater than usual. Looks like I will need an especially long reach for the ATX 4pin 12V power cable.

Has anybody either tried this or owns a NeoPower and can tell me how long the two permanently attached main power cables (20pin + 4pin ATX mainboard cables) are? The Antec Web site lists the length for all the other cables but not these and Antec customer service is not answering me :disgust:

In addition, suggestions for other quiet PSUs with a single 12cm fan, lots of power and long main power cables are also welcome. I plan to put 4 SATA drives in there, so SATA power connectors on the PSU are a definite plus as are dual 12V power rails (that's what seems attractive about the NeoPower).

I have read several reviews of the Antec Neo Power 480 and they all mention the lengthy main cable - some think it is too long. Google 'Antec Neo Power Review' and read the reviews yourself. Bet you'll find them plenty long.

To partially answer my own question: I finally heard back from Antec customer support and the cable length is 20.5 inches (52cm). That is unfortunately not very long for my planned mobo/case combo and I'm still not sure whether it will fit or not.
I guess in the worst case I could just extend the cable myself.

The neo power PSU also has an adapter to connect to ATX plugs (I had to use it on my MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo). That gives you a few more inches of cable length (you'll need it if your mobo uses the standard ATX connection).

Just so you know, I believe that the mobo power connection on the neo power IS longer than most others out there. At least longer than the standard PSU feed.

Maybe you should rethink the mobo (or case) you selected and go with one that holds more to the standards that other manufacturers do. Putting the power connection at the bottom edge of the mobo is just stupid of the maker. Either that, or if the case inverts it like that, it's just as bad. Especially if they don't put the PSU location close enough to that aspect to allow people to use off the shelf PSU's.

The Silverstone ST46F PSU has a cable length of 20 inches. I checked that first because one might expect Silverstone to design its PSU to work well with its cases... nope.

I think the blame should really be assigned to the Silverstone case because it causes the PSU to be placed far away from the usual connections on the mobo. The Lian Li V1000 case also has an upside down mobo placement but they moved the PSU around accordingly so it doesn't have the same problem (it has other issues though: the NeoPower PSU won't fit and the front panel audio/firewire cables are too short to reach the connectors on some mobos 🙂

After some Web search I found places that sell extension cables for the P4 12V power cable. That will solve the problem for me! Silverstone should have just included these extensions with their case.

You might think that if Silverstone designs a case that really requires long cables, that they would supply a set of extensions for the ATX and P4-12V cables... Email them about it.
