Here's the text that I sent to Antec RMA:

I am not sure if my power supply is a NeoPower 550, but I don't see my model listed in your drop down menu. It is a Neo HE550. Hopefully that's close enough.

My power supply will shut down after turning on for about 2-3 seconds if more than two modular cables are plugged into it. My setup is as follows, with the plugs labeled from left to right, with the ATX connector to the right.

Plug 1 - PCI Express (9600GT)
Plug 2 - Triple Molex connector (three CD-ROM drives)
Plug 3 - Empty
Plug 4 - Triply Molex connector (one SATA-Molex adapter, molex-to-three-pin fan adapter)
Plug 5 - PCI Express (9600GT)

I have tried arranging the plugs in multiple different ways, but always trying to keep the PCIe connectors split as per the documentation. With both PCIe connectors in place and no drives, the power supply will work fine. It will even sometimes work fine with both PCIe connectors and one molex cable (either CD-ROMs or hard drives, so I'm guessing the modular cables are fine), but as soon as I try to add the second modular cable, the power supply will cease to boot up. The motherboard I am using is an MSI P7N SLI Platinum with 4GB DDR2 800 RAM and an Intel Q6600 processor. The system has two 120mm fans connected to the motherboard as well. As a final troubleshooting step I pulled the Antec supply out and replaced it with a 400W rated supply from a different manufacturer. The system works fine, even though the replacement power supply doesn't have SLI power connectors and requires more molex adapters.

Thanks for your help.

The replacement power supply is a Silverstone ST40F 400W, and literally every single connector is in use . . . I'm stunned the thing even turns on. But it works, which makes me pretty certain the Antec is the issue. What gives? I read a lot of recommendations on multiple boards for this particular supply, and it's relatively pricey for the amount of power it puts out.

Yep sounds like you have a bad Antec PSU. And yes the Neo HE550 is a NeoPower 550. I'm sure they will give you your RMA.

Seems weird that it would be able to run two PCIe video cards, but a drive or two forces it to shut down.
