Antec MX-1 Question

I put together an Antec MX-1 and Samsung HD753LJ this afternoon. After quick formatting the new drive, Vista 64 recognized it immediately. I am using the provided eSATA cable directly on the eSATA port on my P5Q Deluxe MB - bypassed the eSATA bracket provided that would connect to a SATA MB connector. However all is well. My question is when I shut the computer off, do I manually turn the power switch on the MX-1 off? What is the consequence of not shutting the power switch off - the internal MX-1 fan spinning unnecessarily? Any risk to the HD if the power is not switched off? Thanks, aba4430
