Antec Hard Drive Cooling System seems to work!

POS as far as intructions and screw size>screw hole goes, but after "forcing" the mounting screws (I am from the "if it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer" school), and finally getting it installed, it has lowered my CPU temp by about 5 degrees C, and the mobo temp about the same!

I relocated my HDD from the middle of the case to near the top (just under the CD-ROM), so that may also have had something to do with the temp drops, but....well, I did have the sides of my case off, just put them back on, we'll see what happens here.

Rising. Rising. Rising. Gonna run 3DMark03 and see what happens....Ooh, up to 55 C Cpu, 32 mobo!

Dropping, dropping.

Well, it seems like I do as well by taking the sides off the case as adding this little device. At least it was not too expensive>less than $25.

what kind of case/powersupply do you have?

if you have a side panel fan, make sure it's blowing in and not out, my typical recommendations are

side fan blowing in, front fan(s) blowing in, rear fan(s) blowing out. if you just have one case fan (no matter where it's at) make it blow in, this will create a heat exchange when your power supply blows the heat out of the top of the case, it allows the cold air to come in through the other intakes. if all your fans are blowing out you create a vacuum (a vacuum is a very good insulator allowing the temps to rise further) if all your fans are blowing in you create a slight compression effect (like a refigerator but with out cooling fluids) if all your fans are blowing in and your power supply is blowing out you create a similar effect but with a heat exchange, the down side to having them all blow in is you will collect dust inside the machine at a phenomal pace, with out proper air flow the dust will collect and create static and heat issues.

edit good quiet 80mm fans can be had for $2-4 each.

I don't know what brand of case I have-it's just an old steel Biege box that I got when I originally had a 'puter built for me about 3 years ago. It had one intake fan on the lower front and that was it. 4 5.25 drive bays and 2 3.5 bays. I have since upgraded the mobo, CPU, GPU,--well, everything but the CD-Rom and floppy drive.

I guess a modern case should be my next upgrade.
