QUESTION
: Was curious if anyone could say whether this PSU(EA-430D)
would be able to support this setup.
I would prefer not to pay for more power if I'm not even going to utilize it. If I might cut it close then I'll pay the $20 difference to get the 500w version.

Reason I ask is that I added all the components up @ outervision and came
to Minimum PSU Wattage: 295 W
/ Recommended PSU Wattage: 345 W.

I don't plan on upgrading later on even if the new FM(2?) cpu's come out as I only rarely play WoW(only game). So this would be just my main computer, with the occasional game.

PSU
: Antec EarthWatts EA-430D (430w)
psui.jpg

CPU: AMD Phenom ll X4 925 AM3 95W Quad Core 2.8GHZ (going to OC to 3ghz)
Motherboard: ASUS M4A87TD AM3
GPU: Sapphire 1GB DDR5 HD 6850 PCI Express 2.1 x16 (uses 1x 6 pin plug)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) CL9 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (1.5v)

Hard-Drives: 1x 250gb(IDE-7200rpm) , 1x 320gb(SATA-7200rpm) , I plan on adding a 500gb-1tb drive when prices come down, so I want to factor this in.

Sound Card: ASUS Xonar DG (PCI)
CD Drive: ASUS External CD/DVD Drive (uses USB though)
USB Devices: Keyboard/Mouse/Mic/Webcam/ & Occasional use of usb flash drives

FANS: 4x 120mm LED / 1x 120mm

ETC: NZXT 2m LED Lights (not sure how much power)

As well as TWO 22" LED monitors (know they use their own power adapter, but wasn't aware how much strain multiple monitors add to a GPU)

Thanks for any feedback. If someone has another suggestion of PSU, then I'm all ears.

444w from the newegg calc.

That to me seems very inflated given that it doesn't let me specify USB/fans/pci devices/cpu wattage. Maybe it's to garner more high end psu purchases? :p

Ah yes... Perhaps so.

I'd say you'd be fine with the EA-430D. I own one myself, and while I'm not an expert in currents, it feels well-constructed. Go for it :D

i have basically that same processor (athlon rather than phenom) and supply with a cheapy video card. even doing video recoding it only pulls ~130 watts from the wall. a 6850 on top of that isn't going to overload that supply.

The newegg calculator is WAY off.. they obviously just want you to buy a more expensive PSU ;)

Anyway I always get a kick out of how people flatter themselves with the amounts of watts they think they need.. the manufacturers of these 1,000W+ power supplies are just laughing all the way to the bank. IMO 430w is the perfect amount, and Asus is a solid brand.

I've got a 9 year old Asus power supply running my HTPC
