HI all. For some reason my PSU tends to make a rather high pitched noise when the power cord is plugged in and the PSU is swiched on. The computer itself is not powered on. My comp specs are : q6600 stock, 9800gtx, 640gb WD, stock cpu fan, 4 gb xms2. I believe the PSU is enough to power these components but I don't know about the sound it makes.

Should I replace it?

Well, I'm not an expert, but noise isn't always an indicator of potential problems. There are many other electronic devices that make a high pitched noise when plugged in. Some people complained about their LCD monitor making those high pitched noise. I don't recall hearing about any problems other than it just was just annoying.

If you remember CRT TVs, I always heard a high pitched noise whenever they're on. My laptop makes a high pitched noise as well. Just has to do with electric current oscillating in certain parts of circuits.

However, if you experience problems... then well, you'll know then.

i have a earthwatts430 that's making the same kind of noise... i can't hear it, but the kids are complaining... and i had a antec 450 that did the same thing...

seems to be some component that antec uses in some psu's, since my 550 doesn't seem to have it and none of my bfg's or corsairs do...

i have a ew500, don't seem to make any noise. but if your ew650 works fine I would assume it's nothing to worry about.
